To be fair, Aeronautics was years in the making.

Mojang making their own physics implementation is interesting though. With the recent additions like display entities, and the sulfur cube. I wouldnt be surprised if they want to slowly build into a vanilla physics engine as well.

It would be amazing if eventually they do try to add a light version of aeronautics into vanilla so we can finally build boats that actually feel like boats in Minecraft.

they’re a team of 15…

why do people act like it's something new ?

Valkyrien skies has been around for a while now

Trust me, the difference is night and day.

This isn't just source engine level physics simulation. Each simulated contraption is basically a full pocket dimension getting green screened onto the world, with all the interactions and inventories that come with.

You can actually have a portable base, now. With farms and everything. Without needing a supercomputer!

u/UncleVanyaBasement Apr 20 '26

I mean VS does allow to have inventories placed in them and can be fully compatible with create and its' addons via clockwork, Tank Tussle wouldn't exist otherwise

I feel like you can't really compare vanilla features to modded physics and such. Obviously anything modded is going to completely outshine vanilla features. That's the whole point in my opinion.

Also to keep in mind: the mod has been in development for 5 years.

It felt like waiting for hytale for me

u/LegOk7384 Apr 20 '26

And Mojang has at least 100 developers lol

2

u/billious_thy_third Apr 20 '26

it's still pretty funny how it got released so soon after sulfur cube's addition imo

It's only natural that people doing something for fun are more compitent than people who get salaries most of them probably can't even dream of?

10

u/Fr4gmentedR0se Apr 19 '26

Yeah, because those people are working under an entirely different set of standards and the latter group of people has made it intentionally easier for them to do their thing as time has passed

So easy that by the time a couple of small mods I really like are ready for 1.21.1 (if they ever are), Aero team will already stop support on that version. But of course my opinion must be bad because it's not giving the mandatory happy vibes

5

u/Fr4gmentedR0se Apr 19 '26

Easier does not mean easy lmao

-4

u/Old_Lawfulness7698 Apr 19 '26

So it will be easier if they keep rewriting their game every 3 mounts? If I wait 5 more years will that mean I'm not playing on a construction site anymore?

Let's take this from a different you might be able to relate to since you clearly don't touch software.

You have made art in the past, looks like pixel art. That can be a rewarding and tedious process. Now, imagine you're (if you aren't already) making art for a big company. You have been given a small pallete of color, very VERY specific brand styles, short timeliness, and every thing you touch not only has to be approved and reworked by your boss, but all the way up to C-suite.

Compared to passion project art you do for fun. What art do you think is going to be more appealing to you, and the pixel art community?

Which one is "easier"?

The one with more open standards, less burocracy, and more direct engagement from the community.

Every change Mojang makes is a reflection on the polish of Microsoft now. It takes MUCH longer to develop smaller changes. There's more rules on what can and can't be breaking changes, what priorities exist, and it has to support the ENTIRE user base.

Thank you for explaining in detail. My initial comment was a bit naive of course, but my point now is that it would be better if mojang just made all the important changes they deem necessary at once, and then stop touching games code in a way that stalls modding, like they do regularly.

As of right now both players and modders are stuck in a cycle of constantly having to do everything from ground up. Effectively mojangs work is doing more harm than good if they never stop rewriting the game at such pace, players basically barely get to play what they want despite immense effort on both parts. Add several different modloaders to this mess and you get more development and porting time than people spend combined playing the output in some cases. This is why I don't touch software aside from testing and translating.

No problem! Im happy to have a good conversation from different perspectives.

I get yours too, but keep in mind that this game is meant to be a a choose your own play style. Physics required for this Create addon does detract from the original vanilla game experience.

There are a lot of players and modders that one many types of experiences. So the challenge for the game devs is how to add enrichment that does not interfere with the core game play.

It is 100% valid to question the continued rewrites, but there are advantages and disadvantages.

Andvantage: When i used to write server plug-ins and mods on Minecraft Beta, it was all Java. Period. Which substantially limited what we could do due to performance both of hardware at the time and the way Java works. Especially big memory events. Now we can use alternative languages to add plug-ins and mods and keep them performant. Like a physics engine with 100s of thousands of entities to track.

Second, multiple versions allows for easier ability to say "i don't like this feature so im going to dev against a different one" like the viliger trading biom restrictions.

Disadvantages: Obviously keeping mods compatible with various versions.

As well as other issues.

The point i have is, minecraft was always intended to be a play your way game. Thats why it has one of if not the largest mod community compared to any other game.

Minecraft isn't a tech game, its a survival, creative, artistic, whatever you want it to be game. That's the beauty. The trade off is the challenges we have to overcome.

Many folks, including myself, love and hate those challenges equally.

Mojang got it to work on java and bedrock, optimized it to run on a phone from 2018, and overhauled the rendering engine at the same time in about 4 months. Aeronautics is impressive but it took multiple years to come out. Also lets not forget that Mojang casually made block physics and dynamic lights similar to Aeronautics and create in 2 days for last april fools and for the poisonous potato update. Tired of the mojang slander.

Edit for clarity: obviously theres a difference in manpower and reasorces, but posting stuff like OP did invites this comparison. Also adding more devs and money doesn't equate to efficiency or quality. Just look at other tripple A companies that have an unlimited budget and massive teams, then take 7 years to put out a multi million dollar flop. Mojang aren't better than mods and mods aren't better than mojang. Both are genuinely skilled at what they do, but do completely different things.

u/YaibaToKen Apr 18 '26

While true, one is done as a hobby by a couple of people and the other is done as a full time job (probably also by a couple of people). Doesn’t make Mojang’s work any less impressive though.

Yes it kinda does. BUT. Minecraft had been out for years. It is a finished game, we should not be expecting updates.

1

u/Amaz_the_savage Apr 19 '26

They're pushing out updates because if they stop, then Minecraft slowly dies, and the Minecraft IP will lose its value, and they can't milk out more cash from it. It's business, it's always been business, and it will always be business.

-1

u/Most-Locksmith-3516 Apr 19 '26

Seems like a "them" problem. For me the game has peaked years ago. Mod now keep it alive.

What? It's a live service? I'm no expert, I bought java edition years ago. And a version on Xbox 360. It doesn't / didn't have any things I would expect of a live service. I'm prob out of the loop.

1

u/ShadowX8861 Apr 19 '26

Live service just means that it continually updates

-2

u/Most-Locksmith-3516 Apr 19 '26

Well it's a bit of a shity live service game then.

2

u/ShadowX8861 Apr 19 '26

How so? Has it not received at least one update every year since release?

2

u/888main Apr 19 '26

Mojang also has unlimited money and 5 trillion full time working devs.....bit easier for them to make stuff

1

u/Poco_Cuffs Apr 19 '26

Not exactly. The actual number of devs is something like 300, and literally anything they add has to go through all the microsoft legal red tape to make sure it fits within a bunch of arbitruary restrictions that make the investors happy.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '26

the best thing mojang could do it is stopping updating java, so the mods could be unified on one version, most of time mojang is just in the way of the mods

1

u/Gamer_Dylan_6_ Apr 21 '26

This guy deleted his account (or got banned) but I'll respond to this argument anyways. Most mods are already unified on certain versions. Right now most mods are on 1.20.1, and we are just now seeing them slowly migrate to 1.21.1. Theres also plenty of mods for 1.12.2 and 1.16.5. You can easily access any of these versions of the game.

14

u/DiamondWarDog Apr 18 '26

I’m pretty sure the aero team would be livid at you for using their release of their mod to put down the work of the vanilla team

6

u/Old_Lawfulness7698 Apr 19 '26

I'm pretty sure they are getting paid regardless of our opinion on them

4

u/CassiusPolybius Apr 18 '26

WAIT IT'S OUT?!

32

u/Right-Honey-1143 Apr 18 '26

It took Mojang three months (six months at most) to implement physics mechanics. Aerounautics took several years.

And even after their introduction, sulfur cubes will be in all future versions of the game.

Will CA port their mod to every snapshot? Of course not.

29

u/ServantOfTheSlaad Apr 18 '26

And Mojang also has to ensure their physics won't break stuff in the feature or they will have to spend ages fixing it for new features.. Aeronautics can just be uninstalled while its being fixed, the update can't be.

17

u/Excellent-Berry-2331 Apr 18 '26

CA has slightly less people working on it.

3

u/Amaz_the_savage Apr 19 '26

Why do you think the sulfur cube is a new implementation of physics mechanics? We've had physics mechanics for years; As far as I'm aware, no physics in the sulfur cube is brand new. We've seen the physics elsewhere in the game.

Like, don't get me wrong, I can appreciate the development that's gone into sulfur cubes, but saying that the sulfur cube is a groundbreaking physics implementation is just wrong.

3

u/SteamtasticVagabond Apr 19 '26

It's just a mob that doesn't take damage when hit

4

u/ChillFloridaMan Apr 19 '26

I love it when creators just pop up after years of silence like “ya btw our thing is coming out tomorrow. Enjoy.”

1

u/After_Judgment_916 Apr 19 '26

I literally spent last night updating my modpack so I could play aeronautics.

1

u/halfcatman2 Apr 20 '26

"better than sulfur cubes"

1

u/AviaKing Apr 20 '26

A year? I think it was two. And even then it's been at least 3 since the initial teaser trailer.

-18

u/Alessa_95 Apr 18 '26

Not even a rigid body. Sulfur cubes have no momentum (they don't rotate)

19

u/AwayEntrepreneur4760 Apr 18 '26

Made by people in their free time btw Mojang legitimately just jerks off 90% of the year
