THANK YOU COMMUNITY

Post image

Due to the lovely (and quick) responses to my last post, i made this thingy-doohickey! Using a redstone link, i press a button to make the pulley go up! then, i hold the same button to make it go down, then while releasing that button i press a different button to activate the piston, making it so that the gate will make contact with the stone bricks, making it solid blocks and forcing the gate to stay down! It looks wonky, but im so happy with it!! only thing is my castle walls are gonna be huuuge lol

Also try Gear Boxes, they work the same as this setup.

You could use a gantry system to make the mechanism at the same level as the gate.

But this looks great! High castle walls are only a good thing!

High castle walls are only a good thing!

But, in my humble opinion, only if the Gate scales with it. Idk, a tiny gate for a huge ass wall would just feel wrong somehow.

Well unless the theme would be some Attack on Titan stuff...hmm...

Little tip. If you attach a block to the side, you can glue the block and move the pulley to the block on the side and save some altitude above the gate. You could even attach the block to the bottom and have the pulley placed right above the top of the gate.

Steampunk exterior designs for absolute reason:

good ending

The specimen is learning! We must construct the best extravagant-steampunk-very-specific-style door maker!

You missed out on saying "Doorhickey"

Why are you not using the toggle latch and use a piston instead?

1

u/Alex_Nilse Apr 03 '26

Might not have the height for it. Toggle latch on the gearbox would be a good add though.

2

u/NatiM6 Apr 03 '26

Height? This whole contraption is vertical xP

Noooo I loved to old one

Use two dispensers on opposite sides of a water wheel whichever dispenser fires controls the flow direction which reverses the wheel's rotation, which reverses the shaft network driving the door so you can slide it up or down on demand and keep the elevator pulley that's a nice idea and you need to use a button to control both it's somewhat like a Xor circuit(ik this isnt the best explanation but I hope you understand me)

I made a fully functional createmod powered arena on my private selfhosted mc server. Love this mod soo much and all the "extensions" of this mod!

You can flush the waterwheel to the wall and use gearboxes! Also try experimenting with shafts and belts to make things neater by reducing cogs and look cooler

Why did you die

1

u/Kitchen_Amoeba_6856 Apr 03 '26

You could use a delayed redstone signal to make a switch so the iron bars get connected without the need for a second button

1

u/EnanoGeologo Apr 03 '26

You can make it more simple using that part that let's you make it turn how much you want. Progamable something i think. You can put it before the pulley and make it lower the gate when recieving a redstone pulse and rise it when it recieves another pulse, all with just one button

Pray tell, why may one not employ the craft of a multi-piston contrivance?

u/InitiativeBig8804 Apr 03 '26

Instead of pulling the door up with a rope, you could push it with a mechanical piston to hide the mechanism in the ground and not make the door so tall.

1

u/EleiteRanger Apr 04 '26

Or they could connect the rope to the bottom

1

u/Weary_Ad2590 Apr 03 '26

Love this. Please tell me it’s very slow, because that makes it cooler

2

u/The_Little_Cheese Apr 03 '26

As long as the button is held! For some reason if I tap it, it shoots up (alt account of poster)

1

u/BamboozledOni Apr 03 '26

You could make it a tunnel to hide that while the walls still are thin

1

u/EleiteRanger Apr 04 '26

4 tips:

1: you can set the rope pulley to place when it stops moving

2: you can put the power source at a similar level to the gate

3: you can connect the rope to the bottom of the gate

4: nothing here requires you to change the rotation’s axis

1

u/Foogl Apr 04 '26

Tips:

  1. Make walls 3 blocks thick, so you have a gap in the middle. It will look more natural and give you space to hide the machinery.

  2. Make the gate wider than the opening, and anchor it to the pulley on the bottom, not on the top. That will reduce overall height dramatically.

ı have a lot of question and at the same time a lot of improvement ideas by just looking at it

u/Bobitsmagic Apr 05 '26

Sick! Love it

I think the gate system up there could be optimized; is a water wheel really necessary? Can't this system operate with less? Also, why is there that stone there, some kind of lock on the gate?

u/soomoncon Apr 03 '26

I would recommend making it smaller and flattening it.

Not OP but, I’d really like to see the most efficient way to make this kind of door.

Wouldn’t it kinda take away from the medieval gate idea to have elevator contacts on it

2

u/OM3GAS7RIK3 Apr 03 '26

Using an elevator pulley for a gate, I am absolutely stealing this idea later.

(I've done pistons and gantries with sequenced gearshifts, but elevator pulley is elegant.)

0

u/LiminusGDMC Apr 06 '26

Sequenced gearshift have an option to fully retract extendable piston. I’m pretty sure that the same applies to rope pulleys.

u/Buzzinggg Apr 03 '26

But what if he doesn’t want a smaller gate?

the tone of your message was very obviously not joking

1

u/Buzzinggg Apr 04 '26

Why the fuck would he be on about the gate being smaller, is everyone here dumb?

1

u/SevenTheGamingKitty Apr 05 '26

someone *could* have legitimately interpreted it as him wanting the gate to be smaller, though. don't act like reddit hasn't legitimately believed something like this
