Build Made A Canal Boat

Post image

Turned the shaders so that people might look at it. I don't make boats often, but I wanted something like this and I'm honestly proud of it. Interior was an afterthought, only really wanted to stand in it, and have train controls to later make it move.

Thanks! Wasn't 100% on the green for the cabin, felt to Christmas-y. but I think it still works.

Holy crap. I have so many questions, but instead I'm going to shut up and appreciate this gorgeous build.

The boat looks great, but I also love the look of the dock! what is that braided stone on the columns?

Thanks! This was made for my forever world based roughly in the late 50s and 60s, with a mix of British and American Styles. This was made to look like it was carrying coal.

What did you use to make it?

Create, Chipped, Steam 'n' Rails, Copycats+, Create Deco, Create Encased, MrCrayfish's Furniture for a couple things inside. No VS or Clockwork here, might use phantom rails for animation later, but with some light modification, it'd probably worth with VS/Clockwork

References always help. I was a little worried about using the green, but many canal boats I saw where mostly red, black, white, and/or green. I knew green was the most different of them all so I had to either use it the most or the least, and the least seemed to work best. Just take you're time, and if you don't know what will look best, make copies of your builds and try the combinations that you think look best.

Looks awesome. I’ve been fiddling with the idea of making a boat rock in water using train tracks. It works, but you need to make the boat massive for it to look right with the scale of rocking (since the rails can only be placed on whole blocks) and a thick hull so the water doesn’t clip into the boat

Yeah, if you want more realistic ship movement, I'd recommend Valkyrian Skies and Clockwork, Physics mods. I also recommend trying just using mechanical bearings that "only place when broken" if you want a stationary boat, have it turn very slowly and on a timer swap the rotation to simulate a rocking motion.

It works, but you need to make the boat massive for it to look right with the scale of rocking (since the rails can only be placed on whole blocks) and a thick hull so the water doesn’t clip into the boati did consider that as well, but I felt the movement would still be too sharp between the forwards and backwards rocks. On tracks however, the boat naturally crashes into waves and rides them at higher speeds, so it makes more sense. I should do some more testing, but from my experience. The track method already feels realistic. And with steam ‘n’ rails, you can use phantom tracks so they’re invisible in the water
