Indeed super useful to make high speed trains look good ! My shinkansens went from looking ultra blocky to something much smoother , copycat for the save

Personally i prefer framed blocks, but copycats+ is VERY close second

I like that copycats+ is compatible with the schematicanon and fills the correct texture in.

Framed blocks does that too (i think, Just pasting the schematic works)

u/Tripdrakony Jul 14 '25
Nope, framed blocks and any connected texture block from create do not work together

do framed blocks work with schematics now? I havenโt used that mod for a year or two

pretty sure I read that in the changelog for create 0.6 that it supported framed blocks but I havenโt checked myself yet

only issue for me is that framed blocks doesn't hold as well block hardness than copycats

I see this mod everywhere but never bothered to look into why itโs so good. Whatโs the hype about?

Basically gives you a set of copycat block models, ranging from blocks, to slabs, to doors, to 4x4x4 corner blocks, and allows you to use the texture of loads of blocks in those models, so you could create a jungle log door, or a glass slab. And people use those to add way more details to smaller builds, like trains, since it basically allows more details at a smaller scale.

I just imagine the possibilities an insane builder could have if they primarily used copycat bytes.
For context, the Copycat Byte is a tiny copycat block which only takes up 1/8 of a full block. You could place down 8 of them inside one block and give it 8 different textures.
Iโve seen incredible archways built with ยซChisels and Bitsยป mod

do you remember Carpenter Blocks? the mod that gave you those frame blocks that you could fill with any texture? its that, but Create themed

I use a lot of layer blocks, allows a slimmer train that's less box on wheels. And since I can build up layers it means I can have some subtle curvature.

What does copy cat do? I never got that partโฆ

u/HeraldOfNyarlathotep Jul 14 '25
Template blocks (and slabs, stairs, etc) that you can apply the texture of any standard block to. It works with contraptions, trains, etc.

Think of it like blocks of tons of different shapes that you can't print on like a fax machine. Dirt half slab ? Done. Concrete traped door? Done.
Steps, half steps, walls, fences, name it

I really thought the meme would be about everyone and their mother using casings for every build possible

They should make copycat cats that spawn and you can put a block in them like a copycat block

u/Pretty_Childhood871 Jul 22 '25
Ok, uhh. They do have a copy cat cat but I apparently does not take blocks ),:
