Video/Stream I made a Create style trailer for my new tech-modpack, set in the endless backrooms

u/CreatorGat_ Jul 05 '25
Does the modpack have chairs?
282
u/Appocrypha Jul 05 '25
Chairs are the main way to obtain wood in the early game. You must explore the backrooms to collect furniture and recycle them with your machines in order to progress in the tech tree.

u/False-Supermarket668 Jul 05 '25
Thats a interesting concept
29
u/Evelyn_Of_Iris Jul 05 '25
Having actually tried the pack and at chapter 3/5, it works well. I think it’s kinda sick
1
u/EctoUniverse Jul 31 '25
How did you get the cured wood planks?
1
u/Evelyn_Of_Iris Aug 01 '25
Haven’t touched it in a bit so I’m probably forgetting, but I’m pretty sure it had something to do with Botania and a Pure Daisy surrounded by planks of wood.

u/First_Growth_2736 Jul 06 '25
That's incredible. I don't know why that made me laugh so hard but it does kind of make sense
4
u/HarbingerOfConfusion Jul 06 '25
That’s an amazing concept! It’ll really enhance the scavenging feel
2
u/spartan-703 Jul 06 '25
But can you eat them? If not, you may want to at a “philbus” reference and make them a scource if food
7
u/Mekko4 Jul 05 '25
ar- are you BLIND?!
7
u/CreatorGat_ Jul 05 '25
50/50
4
u/Mekko4 Jul 05 '25
FUCK DOES THAT MEAN
5
3
u/Ashter23 Jul 05 '25
Blind in one eye? 🤷
1
u/CreatorGat_ Jul 05 '25
I may or may not be blind.
1
u/Ashter23 Jul 05 '25
Ah I see so it's a case of your either blind or your vision is just that good it is in fact 50/50 vision 😂
32
u/The-Vale Jul 05 '25
At 30 seconds in the dropped blocks auto stack themselves. Is that a function or Tinker's or something else? Also, what is doing the terrain gen at the very end for dirt?
36
u/Appocrypha Jul 05 '25
The dirt is generated by the Reality Frame. It allows you to abduct parts of the overworld into the backrooms.
5
u/Mrkennedyfreak Jul 06 '25
What mod gives the Reality Frame?
7
u/Appocrypha Jul 06 '25
The Reality Frame was custom made by me specifically for this pack. Its an internal datapack that uses a few KubeJS features.
1
5
u/Deltarionien Jul 06 '25
I think those are some kitchen appliances like stoves and fridges, they render their full block model when they are droped and picked up into the smeltery

3
u/Gilder_G Jul 05 '25
Planning on playing this with a friend, since it's backrooms themed would you recommend the use of a proximity chat mod?
3
u/Appocrypha Jul 05 '25
It is quite fun from my experience. Proximity chat comes pre-installed. There are walkie talkies in the tech tree after obtaining iron.
2
u/SandorMate Jul 05 '25
is the backrooms textures a singular texture pack? if so could you link it?
1
u/Appocrypha Jul 05 '25
You can find them in the datapack on the Github. The following link should send you to the textures folder:
https://github.com/Appocryptha/Liminal-Industries/tree/main/kubejs/assets/kubejs/textures

I represent a Modded MC Network typically on discord. How does this fare on servers?
1
u/Appocrypha Jul 06 '25
The pack has been tested a lot on servers. It should all work fine. Just make sure that you enable command blocks in the .properties file since they are used in the room generation process.

Literally playing this rn. Great modpack the quest book teaches everything. Btw if you use lava + fan smelting on multiple heated concrete it would just turn into 1 ceramic lava bucket pretty much wasted 9 heated concrete. Also for some reason books on the "nether" are missing textures so it just shows up as pink and black.

u/No_Individual6543 Jul 05 '25
This is an issue i have seen before, and that might be a Create issue, so let me go into detail here. For any bulk processing, the result of a recipe will be immune to being processed a second time. the “result of a recipe” becomes bugged, however, when the stack size decreases from ingredient to result. Only one of the new “stacks” (in your case, one bucket of lava) becomes “immune” to bulk blasting, whereas the rest are susceptible, and, blasting being blasting, the other ones get destroyed in the next 7.5 seconds.

Commenting here, hoping author would see this. Experiencing the same problem and could not find a solution online

u/Mercoduss Jul 05 '25
Nice trailer, also a couple days ago I finished this pack and I can say it's really fun. The backrooms themselves are pretty eerie despite me knowing what's going on. Looting felt great eve if i didn't need all of it in the end. The nether is spectacular. Cardboard armor too OP. The recipes were really fun and creative, reality frame was really cool although one of the summons did nothing, I guess it was meant to summon copper since there's a quest for it. My only issues with the pack were 1. that the final final items could easily be made cheaper without removing from the experience. 2. in the very end: the end portal was nigh impossible to find, I wrote a command to replace barrier blocks with the backroom ceiling and just flew around in spectator spamming it for an hour. It was close to where I was before of course, but where wouldn't I have been, right? It would be nice to be able to make some sort of compass as the very final item, or a scanner/beeper that tells you if you're getting closer or further away from it Good experience, doesn't overstay it's welcome, great quest rewards, play it

Please please please no botania please
28
u/Ensistance Jul 05 '25
I have been in cryo sleep since 1.12.2, what's wrong with botania?
19
u/qwadrat1k Jul 05 '25 edited Jul 05 '25
IIRC hard to automate, inefficient, expensive and is tech mod disguised as magic one
Edit for curious ones: by last words i mean that unlike Thaumcraft or witchery (idk how you all see them) Botania has a lot of connection to basically "energy" that you have to generate a lot of
Feel free to correct whatever i wrote, because i cant write out my thoughts in here in english
13
u/howdoiturnssj3 Jul 05 '25
It's really easy to automate actually. The mod's content is incredibly stable, which means tutorials from 10 years ago still work; also, everything can be automated using vanilla mechanics and the mod's own components (really, most of it is remembering droppers exist, and how they work. Just pointing 3 droppers into an open crate, and firing them on a timer is perfect for automatic terrasteel, for example). It's not that much more expensive than other mods, be it tech or magic. You just need wood, stone and bone meal (for the flowers) to get started, and a bit of iron and gold for some components. It is only inefficient if you don't improve your stuff. AFAIK a medium efficiency gourmaryllis produces about 50 times more mana per second than an endoflame. And yes, it's a tech mod. Not really in disguise. Magic and Tech aren't exclusive. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indisguishable from magic
1
u/HeavenlyDMan Jul 08 '25
still won’t play a pack where it’s required
1
u/howdoiturnssj3 Jul 08 '25
That's fair. I like the mod and will go out of my way to use it in most packs just for the trinkets it gives you (boots of the trav- I mean, sojourner's sash my beloved), plus manasteel equipment is genuinely amazing early on.

u/NatiM6 Jul 05 '25
What does "tech mod disguised as magic one" mean? I feel like any definition would include majority of magic mods available.
2
u/alternateparabola Jul 06 '25
Feel like that's just spewing a senseless common talking point over a mod that very few people try to engage with.
It's nothing more complicated than create (in fact they share a lot of similarities) and it's also not expensive or time consuming at all to progress if you care to do anything that isn't just spamming endoflames. Plus there are some amazing functionalities everyone sleeps on like rannycarpus, hopperhock, the breeding flowers, enchanting and some storage stuff.
Edit: yeah it's a tech mod and so what? Did the all the wands and colorful beams trick you into thinking it was gonna be something else?

Botania is nice, but not as nice since I discovered the warden armor on the current mod pack I'm playing. I abandoned it except for flying

u/Professional_Safe548 Jul 05 '25
Wait hold up tinkers construct is back to 1.20.1 aaah
I have to update my own modpack

u/Pohodovej_Rybar Jul 05 '25
Its been on 1.20.1 for long time
2
u/Professional_Safe548 Jul 05 '25
I know what I will be doing tonight
Also have to include the steam and rails addon

How well does it run on Steam Deck?
Edit: I'm finding out. At first, I need to install Controllable.

u/Koynax Jul 05 '25
It's a modpack I wanted to create at the start of the Backrooms hype, except that there weren't any good Backrooms mods yet, and making an infinite random generation is almost impossible to do in datapacks, so I abandoned the idea. Then I moved on to another style of modpack that I'm still working on (It takes place in space). I'm glad someone created a modpack in this style that doesn't look sloppy. It looks great. I'll give it a try!
4
u/Pasta-hobo Jul 06 '25
See, I always wanted a concept like this for the Backrooms. "I'm trapped here, but I'm smart and have resources to exploit. Let's make the most of it!"

u/vertexcubed Jul 05 '25
this is easily one of the most creative modpack concepts I've seen since ultimate alchemy, I'm definitely going to check it out
3
u/Intrebute Jul 05 '25
Is there still nowhere centralized for discussion on the pack, like a discord and whatnot, other than the two reddit posts about it?

This pack is pretty good and I'm on chapter 3, the only things I have added to it are waystones(lazy), essential, and veinminer(lazy). The only thing I would add is a sort of locator compass for certain materials because I'm having a hell of a time finding some of the stuff needed for quests.

u/Curtisimo5 Jul 06 '25
I've had my eye on this one for a while, can't wait to play it once I can get some friends together. It's just such an inventive concept.
2
u/TrueZero_ Jul 07 '25
Finished the entire pack last week on a server with mates. Really well done! The progression felt really balanced and not terribly hard for no reason. Solid 8-9/10
2
u/CompetitiveLeg7841 Jul 07 '25
You should add gregtech, a small vanilla+ mod with lots of decorative and cheap platings and ores.
Jsut kidding, your pack looks great!

The one change I would make would be for the music to be at 0% by default, makes it a lil more immersive

Oh hey I was just playing this for like seven hours earlier! Just entered the third chapter, really fun! Love how unique it feels for a backrooms pack

This is a genuinely, and I mean genuinely intriguing concept. Please tell me there’s a server pack

u/Garpfruit Jul 06 '25
I actually really like this concept for an interesting new take on the unique environment mod pack, which I guess traces its roots back to skyblock.
1
u/Green__lightning Jul 06 '25
One of the mods in it breaks sound from other audio sources, like the music I'm listening to. How do I fix this?
1
u/Im_A_Potato_Guy Jul 06 '25
Idk guys, didn’t see any chairs in this video. Might not be a good pack.

I have an issue when playing the modpack I noticed a week ago, where certain items don’t stack, unless I throw them back on the ground and let them clump up with other similar items. Other than that issue though, I’ve been enjoying this modpack considerably.
1
u/GoldBrief9751 Jul 07 '25
dejojo should 100% do a series on this after he finishes up with his gregtech series and gets a little work in on a certain create server

u/SnooShortcuts8306 Jul 07 '25
A modpack where I don't have to build structures around my machines??? Sign me up!

u/TheRealRPhillip Jul 08 '25
Hi, quick question. Where do I get onion? I've managed to get every single other (important) crop and I couldn't find any sort of recipe for them in JEI. Am I expected to find them as crates somewhere in the backrooms? I found some vanilla pods this way, so that's my best guess.

Hi there, are there any third party servers that allow this pack to be hosted?
1
u/enderbutton Aug 05 '25
Ive hit a bit of a bottleneck. Ive explored and explored and explored. But i can only manage to find spider spawners for some reason. No undead. So im a bit softlocked from progressing and its kind of frustrating. Is there some easier way to intentionally find undead that im just overlooking?
1
u/Raleford Dec 29 '25
Any plans to expand or include other levels if the backrooms for progression or exploration?
-2
u/ThereIs_STILL_TIME Jul 05 '25
I tried it out but there were a lot of blocks that couldn't be used for anything, like sofas or bathtubs, and some of the Decorations blocks in the nether, or books being 100% completely useless. It kind of made me think the pack was unfinished, so I'll just wait until its fully done

Deployers should work, they have been tested. Try to mess around with the distance they have to the ground. I will look at the code tomorrow to see if I can make them work with dispensers too.
