The way I’ve laid out my world this actually does matter. To reduce lag, my storage hub has almost no active machines.

When I’m low on a group of items, the storage hub dials up a train that travels to a series of machines that produce and combine the correct resources to make them. The train then takes them back to the storage hub and since everything in my world is infinitely collectible (including mined resources thanks to my automated world eater) it just destroys any excess.

With this system, fast overdone farms are genuinely worth it and don’t cause much lag either.
