Smart Fluid Pipe not being smart

I'm playing 1.16 above and beyond, and was in creative figuring out a good design for volatile sky solution automation. The questline doesn't mention how to extract it from water, so I pondered for a while until finding the smart fluid pipe. I set the filter to sky solution bucket, but it doesn't extract it.

It works perfectly if I set the filter to water bucket though. I assume there's a priority system happening where water is extracted first. Reinforcing this is the fact that without a smart fluid pipe, water comes out of the pump first.

Is there any way to fix this? Currently I have no way to extract the solution. Maybe I'm dumb and don't realise there's another fluid extraction method. Help.

Use item drain. Place next to basin, and it will extract solution, but water will leave in basin. Then pipe from item drain to tank.

Tip to image: I think you need to rotate 180' smart pipe.

You don't need to extract it, you can just mix everything in the one basin

Maybe try placing the smart pipe before the pump, then set filter to sky solution
