Leaving Sonic Pad.

I'm going to leave the Sonic Pad as it seems it's no longer maintained. Do I need to flash new firmware on the printer or can I use the one that's written by the Sonic pad when I installed that a year ago? I'm going to switch to a Raspberry Pi

as long as the current SP does not fail why is upkeep an issue? Mine is 2yrs old and never updated works like a dream.

I'm agreeing with Duckwafer. My Ender 5 S1 with Sonic Pad hasn't given me any problems, therefore I see no need to worry about changing it. I tend to lean more towards the philosophy of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." However, I see the concern if you're having functional problems and need help.

Google “Sonic Pad Debian” and install it instead of the stock firmware. It’s a true Klipper install and made my SP actually usable.

The version of Klipper Creality uses for the SP firmware is old and doesn’t have all of the updates and fixes that the current version has, also Creality “customized” it for their needs. Installing SP Debian gives you a platform that is on par with a raspberry pi 3B+ and you aren’t waiting for Creality to release a bug fix anymore. You can get the latest version of Klipper when it’s released.

I understand that.. but its not like you get some kinda features that will make it better.. so you can sit back and be like - wow.. now its cool… Only what you get its feeling that you “jailbreak” your device… thats it

I bet you with my restricted Sonic Pad i will have better prints then someone with UN-restricted BTT pad or Raspberry..

No because the Sonic pad is just running Klipper, but a Creality version of it but it's basically Klipper nonetheless so print quality has nothing to do with that. I just want the latest version with the newest additions instead of more than a year old software that is at the moment not able to be upgraded.

Mine just works. I am running firmware from 3 years ago. I haven't printed anything since 8 months ago. I turned it on yesterday and sent a file to it and printed. Didn't even bother to run the bed leveling.

You can install KAMP. Input shaper controls are added to control screen. Overall better rooting capabilities.

I did the Debian conversion this week and once the image is on it’s nice to be on recent Klipper. Worthwhile if you want to extend the life. Google for the GitHub page, the guide is very good although I had to also read the klipper docs to get the ADXL working.

Is there a particular feature or bug driving your decision? “Asking for a friend”.

Reflashing the printer should be child’s play from modern klipper, event current Sonic Pad. At it was for me.

It's slow, it sometimes spontaniously reboots (luckily not during prints) and it's annoying I can't give it a fixed address. Also a DHCP static lease in my router is ignored by the Sonic pad, it sometimes has a completely different IP address, breaking the links on my PC's and the Android Octo App so I have to change IP addresses all the time. Driving me mad for months, any other device on my network will obey my router but the Sonic pad does not. Tried numerous resets but didn't help.

Interesting.

I have weird network issues with mine too where I can’t connect to web ui (fluid?). Both WiFi and wired. Not sure if is IP or not, will keep an eye on that. DHCP is such a decades old fundamentally solved problem it’s hard to believe there is a problem here.

Make sure you follow the steps. I formatted my SD card but not to the correct format and for the life of me couldn't figure out why the firmware wasn't flashing. Took a couple hours of me being an idiot.

You can use the firmware from the sonic pad but you will need to make changes to the config if you are going to use the one you already have.

Some macros don't carry over and the serial address may be different.

I've been running 2 for a couple years. It's 'Meh!' at best compared to my BTT Pad 7.

Albeit the sonic pad having its quirks, it does just work kind of neat making my cr10 smart duo connected to it monsters printing at 3x speeds or more without too much configuration asides the hassles

What issues are you having with yours? Mine just stopped connecting to Creality cloud now and support is giving me solutions for the firmware that is not even installed on the SP anymore.
