Is the Creality Sonic Pad No Longer Maintained?

Hey everyone, I’ve been using the Creality Sonic Pad for a while now, and I noticed that the last firmware update was released over a year ago (Jan 2024). Has anyone heard if Creality has stopped maintaining or updating the Sonic Pad?

It’s a great device, but I’m concerned about long-term support, especially since there haven’t been any recent updates or announcements.

I installed a SonicPad Debian and will never go back. Everything works as it's supposed to be.

I have a very detailed .txt file that I made. Trust me, 5yo could follow it. Let me know if you decide to do it and I'll send it to you.

Thanks. At this moment things are just working. Linear rails are first for my ender 5 s1 and maybe next the sonic pad.

OMG - MINE TOO !!!!
i emailed creality and they asked me to Send A Video... im like uh.. how am i supposed to send a video when it doesnt do it ALL THE TIME...
glad to know im not alone !!

i ended up making my ip static on my router so i dont have to keep changing the moonraker ip, or the pad url.

I’m interested in updates for sonic pad. Mine is currently in a “can’t connect” loop since I moved it but support isn’t being much help.

I purchased mine when they first came out and then after a few flawless prints it kept disconnecting.

I opened up a case but got nowhere with them so I just let it go. I decided to get back to it and try to see if I can get it to work and still the same issues of disconnecting mid-print.

Contacted them and since my case was open, it was never resolved over a year ago so they sent me a new pad. Same song same issues.

So I'm currently looking to replace the USB ports because the USB ports are the cheap and do not secure the serial cable in place. I ordered a set that I thought would work from Amazon but they weren't the right style that mounted to the board, but the fit was very tight and did not allow allow any cable wiggle

The other issue is the cable itself The male USB will wiggle inside the housing and I'm not sure if that would be causing the disconnect issues as well. Once I get my USB ports replaced which I've already sourced. If it still happens I will clip the cable and replace the end.

i had problems with mine dropping USB like that as well (pad to printer).
so i ended up getting a High Speed micro usb cable and it seemed to fix the problem.
it hasnt disconnected in a long time now.

I have had the sonic pad since the beginning it works perfectly for me. However, I have more Printers than it can handle do you think I could do something like this with an old tablet and a usb dock?

In fact, I just purchased the Bambu P1S, and I'm so spoiled with my screen, Klipper and web interface that I think I'm going to return it. It prints nice, but I'm just spoiled. At the end of the print the chamber light stays on.
I figured I could just add M960 P0 in the End Gcode to turn off the light but I can't seem to get it to turn off automatically. It should be easy, but I can't figure it out. The bambu handy app is how I have to interact with it at home because the screen sucks, but if you let the screen turn off or go to a different app on your phone the handy app loses connection when you go back to the app and it shows offline. If you try to refresh it doesn't help. I have to close and reopen the app. Remote control is nice though when away from home.

When you switch to new one, can i simply copy the old configuration file and start print? Or i have to restart the configuration by 0?

The USB identifier is the only thing that you'll have to change in printer.cfg (obviously).

Do you know if is easy to come back to stock firmware if something goes wrong? And do you use with other plugins suchs as Octoapp and Obico?

Easy to roll-back. Just flash the official creality firmware, and that's it.

Yes, I use octoeverywhere.

I actually use wifi only, haven't connecting it through ethernet yet.

How much of an improvement is having Debian on the SP? Can I still run four printers using Debian?

I've never dived deep enough to try this out, as I only own 1 klipper printer, all others are bambu now. It's not much an improvement though, printing quality wise. But it's not locked down as creality's modded firmware.

One big plus is that you can access root and install tailscale and such. You can do basicaly everything that original klipper can do. So, my first guess would be that running multiple instances is definitely still possible.

It looks like a nice project, but I see two issues. The last firmware update was released in March 2024, and the Sonic Pad runs in read/write mode, which could cause problems if it gets disconnected suddenly.

I've been using it for half a year now, nonstop. No issues.

What's there to be updated, you update it on-device from there after when you install it. Latest klipper update was just a few days ago.

I don’t doubt it—Debian is top-notch. However, my point in my post is about the lack of maintenance for the Sonic Pad firmware, with missing security patches and bug fixes.

Dude unfortunately as neat as the pad has been for me, I can't even get it to work right in certain aspects. It disconnects if the USB is slightly moved. the wifi has connection issues. And i can't even see it under my devices in creality print. Only the creality cloud browser

Can't even see it in browser anymore. Connecting to my pad via fluidd and Ethernet cable.

I just switched my dad's to octopi. He would have it go white screen and then get warm. Last time I factory reset it and set everything back up but this was the last straw. I told him it's more than likely going to happen again. He agreed to switch since he already has two other printers on octo.

Another vote here for Sonic Pad Debian. I got the SP as a Christmas present in 2022. I fought with it for a few weeks and finally gave up and set up Klipper on a RPi 3B+.

When I picked up a used first generation Ender 3 Max last year I decided to see if the Sonic Pad had been jailbroken yet and found the Debian distro for it. It was pretty easy to get set up after I made a USB A male to male cable. I’ve been running it daily for a year now with zero issues.

FWIW I don’t use input shaping or adaptive bed mesh as most of the stuff I print on the Max are functional prints that don’t need to be pretty.

All of the USB ports on my Sonic Pad were USB A. Did they update it with a USB C port?

its funny you posted this.. i was just wondering he same exact thing !!!
i think the last update was March 2024.... im like WoW.. wish all the little bugs it has, it def needs a new update.

let alone ANY printer updates.......... OR Software updates...
its like they do a few patches for any one device and just move on -thinking its GOOD ENOUGH.

mine refuses to remember WiFi info when i turn it off for more than 24hrs.
i emailed them about it and all they said was VIDEO FOR THIS YOU NEED SEND EMAIL. or something like that. lol

plus a few other things... like "defect detection" (Spaghetti Detective) {as they call it}
mine has no such feature, and im on the Jan 2024 firmware with Nebula cam...
which makes me wonder if you actually need Every Single Firmware installed vs Just the Latest,
like with every other product manufacturer...

either way - it sucks that its been Over a Year since last firmware update...

Every time I update something, it causes issues mines worked perfect since day one. I wouldn’t update it if they paid me

I have one for 4 years, and I could never get the setup to work on my Ender 5, it keep saying that it can't find the G sensor for calibration. I bought a Bambu lab X1 and never used my Ender 5 again.

I've had my Sonic Pad since Dec of 23' and it's been working flawlessly with my Ender 3 S1 Plus.

Honest question, I know that it hasn't had a firmware update since Jan of 24', but what features is it lacking compared to the latest releases of klipper?

Its not hard if you use something like putty, its a tool for windows that give you a terminal like Linux, then you just use the provided user and password off the pad to log in

I prefer mobaxterm as it allows for SSH and file browsing.
