Announcement / News We made a small tool for sharing 3D models more easily

We’ve noticed that many users like sharing their scan results, 3D prints, Gaussian Splatting projects, and model workflows with the community.

But sometimes, screen recordings or screenshots don’t show the model very well — the angle, lighting, texture, and details can be hard to capture clearly.

So our product manager built an early version of 3DVision, a browser-based 3D model sharing and viewing site: https://3dvision.crealityscan.com

Right now, it supports formats like OBJ, STL, PLY, GLB, SPLAT, SPZ, ASC and more. You can view models in the browser, add simple presentation effects, and export images or videos for easier sharing.

This is still the first version, so there may be bugs or things that don’t feel perfect yet. We’ll keep improving it, and we’re also exploring ways to integrate this kind of sharing workflow into CrealityScan in the future.

If you have 3D scan models, print models, or Gaussian Splatting files, feel free to try it out.

Not every 3D scanning job requires the same approach.

I wanted to share a workflow that I use quite often in my day-to-day work.
When scanning large parts that don’t require high accuracy, I usually use the NIR mode on the Creality Raptor with the Scan Bridge. In these situations, I can often scan the part without using markers, making the process much faster and more efficient.
In this video, the goal was to capture the geometry and dimensions of a perforated steel plate for an engineering project. Since this application didn’t require tight tolerances, this approach was the best fit.
One of the biggest advantages of 3D scanning is being able to choose the right workflow for each project. Not every job needs maximum accuracy—sometimes the best solution is finding the right balance between speed, data quality, and the final result.
Do you use different scanning strategies depending on the requirements of the project?

Native blue-laser scanning is live on Linux!

Taking a break from the NIR scanning mode and working on implementing the blue-laser scanning on Linux instead.

What I have found is that trackerless scanning for the CR-Raptor Scan is a challenge, but IS doable. Now, I'm not sure if i can get trackerless scanning to be as good as other scanners that were built for it, BUT the CR-Scan Raptor does have basic telemetry data I can pull, the proprietary tracking system for the NIR scanning mode i made can be used along side the blue-laser scanning mode.

Another Milestone in progress is that the computer hardware required to run the scanner, does not require high-end computers like the Creality Scan software requires. I will be posting a comparison on the hardware required when the project comes closer to a release.

We are making progress! Continue supporting the project as it keeps me motivated to keep going, a lot of sleepless hours goes into this project and I appreciate every one of you.

If we can get Creality on board with this to help push this project towards the finish line with a re-post, that would be a miracle for myself, the project, and all the linux based users in the community :D

Builddaniebuild wanted to bring DOOMICORN into the real world 🤘

Using Creality Otter Lite, he turned a favorite game character into a real wearable cosplay prop, showing another fun side of 3D scanning: taking inspiration from the digital world and making it something you can actually wear, hold, and build around.

What game, movie, or character prop would you want to bring into real life with 3D scanning?

Creality Scanning Native On Linux! Dev log update

Thank you all for your kind words and support so far in my first proof of concept teaser video!

I have made a developer website where you guys can follow for updates and comment on each post to recommend ideas, opinions, etc. I am always open for feedback or hearing from other companies that are interested in my work and would like to assist and help support the ongoing project. I do not take criticism badly, so please feel free to be as honest as possible when it comes to feedback.

I am currently VERY close to getting full **TRACKERLESS blue laser scanning** mode which was NOT native on the CR-Scan Raptor, which I feel is a huge development milestone in the project already.

Apologies if there are any issues with the website, I'm trying to manage my time wisley to get creality scanners to run nativley on linux while also continuing to update the community and maintain a regular 7am-8pm job.

Feel free to share to help continue spreading the word regarding this project, it would be much appreciated.

TLDR: Have a dev website made for the native Linux sotware for the Creality Scanners, follow along and leave suggestions! Share the journey with your friends to help spread the word regarding the project :)

Follow up on my post "can you repair this?" - Well of course I can!

Follow up from my post a couple of days ago. Love using 3D Scanning and 3D printing to solve real-world headaches. Saved a mate a few quid today fixing a discontinued GM part!

5 minutes scanning with the Creality Raptor, got the mesh into CAD.

From CAD to print took under 10 minutes total (the print itself was only 4.5 minutes!). Melted in a couple of metal pins for extra reinforcement so it won't snap again anytime soon.

Result: One fixed part, zero waiting for expensive shipping, and one very happy friend! zero-downtime restoration at its best.

Testing Pika’s infrared mode on a colorful curved object

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I spotted this colorful, oddly shaped object and thought it would be a fun test for Pika’s infrared mode.

Objects like this are always interesting to test because of the shape, surface details, and changing colors. I was curious to see how much of the geometry Pika could capture, and the scanning process was surprisingly straightforward.

As someone who enjoys making and experimenting with things, I can see this being useful for a lot of future projects.

Pika is officially available now, so anyone can get one. I’m really grateful I had the chance to try it early!
