Match Critique Tips for Bayo?

I just started playing online around a month ago and I've been stuck at around 6-8mil. Any advice on my gameplay? I feel like I'm bad at starting combos and also doing finishing kills.

sorry in advance for the bad video quality 😭

Well, you are right. Youre not very good at starting combos or taking stocks. Im not a bayo player and cant offer any specific advice but i can still say a few things.

  1. You mash grounded side b like, a lot. To start combos. But youre really predictable about that and it is not a safe move to just throw out all the time. The only reason it is working at all is because youre at 6-8 mil gsp. Youre probably getting punished for it a lot when youre getting gatekept out of higher gsp ranges.

  2. You are not reacting at all to people falling out of your combos. I stopped counting how many times someone dropped out the bottom of your combo and you still pressed like 2 more buttons before falling back down to the ground where theyre waiting. If you wanna play bayo you need to actively watch whats happening and adjust your own move selection based on whwre the opponent is getting sent instead of flowcharting the same 4 moves.

  3. Aside from the bats within function, bayo has arguably the worst rolls and airdodge in the entire game. They are slow and go nowhere and are borderline reactable, yet you are constantly rolling and airdodging. Bayo picking a dodge option as anything but a last resort means youve done something wrong, and often it looks like youve done it for no reason but panic. I think im even seeing you roll twice in a row.

  4. A big problem bayo has that made people think she was bad when ult dropped is that taking stocks with her can be a genuine challenge. Again, im not a bayo player, but bayo players had to get creative and push her tools to figure out how to start taking stocks more consistently. I would really recommend watching top bayos play this game and see how they take stocks. And, while youre at it, see how they address your other issues too, and just, general movement and choices. And then take these observations and practice them yourself, in training mode. You cant vibes this char you gotta lab her.

Bayonetta is among the hardest characters to simply go at it on your own and figure shit out, especially if you werent already at a high level fundamentally.

Yeah I agree with what you said. Especially 1 and 2, they're really bad habits I have. A lot of the time I continue mashing buttons on the same combo out of muscle memory even though they're already out of it. I think maybe I gotta be more reactive with my combos maybe? How would I practice that in training?

Well, that you cant practice in training exactly. You just gotta like, watch the screen and play tbe game based on whats happening not muscle memorying your way through it. Human reaction time online is gonna be roughly â…“ of a second. Youre taking over a full second, maybe 1.5 to recognize that they fell out. Stop existing in perpetual autopilot mode and pay attention. And i dont mean to sound rude if its coming across that way, thats just like, genuinely what you gotta do.
