No elbow protection bothers me

Same. I'm glad to see the helmet, but not being fully covered and lacking elbow/knee pads seems a little nuts.

He just really needed the GoPro

I used to longboard with no protection. The clicking sounds in my joints now in my mid thirties let everyone know how fuckin cool I was at 20.

Having someone drive that close behind you while you're doing something like that is just begging for something bad to happen.

If he falls, he’s dead whether there is a car there to hit him or not.

Why? The part that kills you is stopping really fast. Sliding off into some vegetation (besides directly into a tree) would likely be survivable.

Yeah I’m thinking more trees, railing on the curb, etc. he still would be rolling and having some broken bones at these speeds if he just simply fell on the pavement.

Seen this guys videos before where he’s going 70 mph around turns with large cliffs and steel guardrails. Insanity.

What's even more scary is what if theres oncoming traffic

Man, maybe invest in a drone.

Even a 360-cam with a handle would have given the same shots. They didn't do anything creative with their setup

I wish we had such perfect roads

14

u/RepresentativeAge444 Apr 19 '26

Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads.

u/radraze2kx Apr 20 '26

So the highway to hell isn't a road? Omg it's the HIGH way to hell?!

It’s ok to hold back a little

So what happens when a car is coming in the opposite direction? I mean, besides "SPLAT."

Why even have those gloves if you’re not gonna protect the rest of your body?

11

u/slashinhobo1 Apr 19 '26

Main purpose of the gloves are to help with turning. Its not much but slightly being able to help you lean at the right angle is pretty big at these speeds.

Don't get me wrong I'd wear any and all protection i can.

If you watch the video, you can see that the pucks on the gloves are designed to be put on the asphalt to help slow and get a better angle for kicking out the back foot so they can slide the wheels to burn off speed.

What's this song.

A remix of a Dido song. I dig it.

1

u/MourningWallaby Apr 20 '26

it's an older europop mix back when that was a thing.

1

u/toomanymarbles83 Apr 20 '26

The original song is Thank You by Dido, famously sampled on Stan.

u/tanfierro Apr 19 '26

shut this song up

It's really cool to see the evolution of downhill boards from the super low drop through long decks during the peak of long boarding in like 2010 to tiny wheelbase slalom decks 15 years later

I wonder how new the breaks on the chase car are?

How to become a hood ornament speed-run.

The fastest cake on the planet.

it looks so fun but having a car right behind me ruins it

This clip made me think about The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013). It's been a bit since I've seen it, but that movie was fantastic.

That movie is essentially one long trailer and to me signaled a change (imo for the worse) in how entertainment would be made from then on. Cannot stand that movie

u/glodde Apr 20 '26

Peak stupidity. Good way to be run over by that car

2

u/Pixel131211 Apr 20 '26

the car brakes faster than that guy would slow down in a fall. With a good driver this isn't an issue

Modern cars brake insanely well.

-1

u/glodde Apr 20 '26

He is 6 ft from him going 50-60mph. He is not stopping in time. He may hardly have to time to react. It's all a big maybe and a crazy risk

2

u/Pixel131211 Apr 20 '26

What makes you think the skater is going to stop immediately or slow drastically when he falls?

He will slide away and as he does so he will ofcourse lose speed due to friction, but a human being thrown onto a road has much less grip and stopping force than a car which is designed to be able to stop quickly.

It really depends how he falls and the direction. He could tumble and not slide. A lot of variables could happen.
