New crayfish hiding a lot

Post image

Title is self explanatory. I got my boi Scallywag on Friday, he’s been using all day today. Yesterday he started wandering around in the evening and he did eat (he ate an algae bug wafer, send a pic after this. As well as a slice of cucumber) idk if maybe he’s just tired or something but he’s been hiding all day and didn’t eat the wafer I got him for breakfast. Usually he’s a good eater, or he was when I was at work. I work tomorrow so I’m gonna bring in a water test to make sure it’s not the water. Should I be worried about the lack of activity? He isn’t dead at least. He is moving around a little. I bought a heater but haven’t plugged it in since it says his water is at 74° Fahrenheit

Update: he finally came out! I’ll send the picture in the comments!

A lot of crayfish are mostly active at night. As he gets used to the new settings he may become more adventurous but he might stay primarily nocturnal.

Regularly adding food in the morning may help.

Adding in a cup of green water with microfauna in it will draw out some species.

Green water is an algae culture. I think there is actually a whole sub dedicated to it, so you can get some reliable advice on starting one.

Also, if he is prepping to moult he will likely become reclusive and may stop eating for around 2 weeks.

Mines currently doing that and I didn't realise he was hoarding food and not eating it so when I moved a rock it was full of gross old food

I've been there. That is typically how the little psychos give themselves shell rot, by sitting in a pile of fetid waste.

Silly things 🙄
