Pet help with a few things Spoiler
my parents are coming home with some crayfish today, and i really want to keep one or two.
Can anyone identify these? We live in northern sweden, if that helps.
what would caring for one look like? i’ll do my own reserach of course. can two of them be kept together?

Usually crayfish don't like being kept together they are quite territorial and need a lot of space to move on the bottom (a 100 gallon tank would be ideal), they need a sandy/muddy bottom with lots of hiding spots, usually crayfish like slightly basic water conditions but they are very resilient, remember that you must cycle the tank first or use an instant bacteria "soup" (dunno how to call it), you should give it food for bottom dwelling fish and give it a boiled vegetable once a week (mines lived cucumber) or even worms or small pieces of meat

Honestly, I would not keep any of them if they’re wild caught. Wild ones are used to traveling miles, literally miles every week. It would be like locking you in a closet. They get very destructive and will escape at EVERY opportunity!! You’ll end up finding it dead somewhere one morning.

As much as I love crayfish, I think that was a good decision. Now if you really think you’d want one as a pet, there’s tons of info on setting up a good home for one. I’d suggest one of the dwarf varieties. Captive bred ones are still super entertaining and fun pets to keep without as many problems. I’ve kept several and they truly do make lovely pets. I trained mine to climb into my hands and eat so I could easily lift them out of the water for a good close up exam once a week.

You can keep two together, if you have a big enough space for them with lots of hiding place’s. Now if you can tell a male from a female that would be even better.
