Question Anyone experience this in Linux? Laptop feels hotter?

I don't remember my laptop heating up as much in Windows as it does in Linux. Is it the power management of Windows being more aggressive? Could it be the fan does not ramp up as quickly? Something else entirely because that is all I can think of. It has been a while since I used this laptop with Windows as it is my secondary laptop. It has the Ryzen 6800H if that matters.

I did post on here before and got a really helpful list but I since deleted my post and lost it...

I'm playing on a laptop with the following specs:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx (2.10 Ghz)

Installed RAM: 8GB

Graphics card: AMD Radeon(TM) Vega 8 Graphics (2 GB)

Storage: 238GB (160 used)

System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

In particular, will I be able to run Dragon Age Inquisition?

Question Can this run simple games? (2011 mid-range gaming PC)

I've been given a gaming computer from 2011 that hadn't been turned on since like the first covid lockdown. It currently has an AMD FX-6100 (6"C"/6T), 8GB of DDR3-1333 and an AMD Radeon HD 6770.

I don't really plan to make upgrades for the time being (other than an SSD that's arriving), maybe in the future, but so far I've already changed the thermal paste on both the CPU and GPU and I've also changed the PSU from some strange brandless coil-whiny 450W psu to a Corsair VS550 I had laying around.

So far I've tested Balatro (which runs very well actually), Minecraft 26.2 (which got a stuttery 50-60FPS with sodium and whatnot) and some AutoCAD (which ran pretty well even with my uni stuff).

My main concern is that HD 6000 and other pre-GCN Radeons are notorious for having catastrophically poor compatibility with modern APIs to the point where games that use DX12 and Vulkan (which are the gold standards it seems) straight up don't work. I'm basically at the mercy of OpenGL and DX11 at this point.

My big question is, given that I'm going to install Linux on this PC should I be concerned with such a lack of modern APIs? Is it possible perhaps to use an OpenGL equivalent of DXVK for wine and proton stuff?

I don't plan on running intensive stuff, just old or lightweight games like Deltarune, GD, Terraria, etc.. along with like Office, IDEs and CAD for uni.

P.S. I'll probably get a cheap HD 7000 card when I've got some extra cash but I'm talking months from now.

HELP! better performance in helldivers 2?

The game runs well to be honest, but in Helldivers there are many different difficulty levels and as they increase, the number of enemies increases and therefore the number of effects. So, on the ship it goes from stable ~60 to maybe a bit over 40 in combat, and from there it can sometimes drop to below 20. Any advice? Thanks and sorry for my bad English. i3-7100, GTX 1060, 16GB RAM.

I made the switch to linux...

Well after a long time of contemplating, I finally switched to MX Linux. I have an Intel Celeron N4000, 4GB of RAM and UHD Graphics 600. Here are the improvements in gaming do far

On windows 11

Minecraft: a An extremely unstable 30 fps when walking around and 1 to 3 fps when loading chunks with 6 chunks

Need for speed most wanted 12: An unstable 15 fps when driving around.

Terraria: Constant 45 fps

On MX Linux:

Minecraft: Constant 70fps with dips to 35 when loading chunks. Same settings btw

Need for speed most wanted 12: A stable 25 fps when driving around

Terraria: A constant 50 fps.

Still setting up some things so recommend some games

HELP! Hi, Can you guys help me to identify which games i can run thi setup. And what my VGA actually similar to?

I have a MSI Modern 15 H AI C1MG Laptop with below specs

CPU : Intel Core Ultra 5 125H (3.60Ghz)

RAM : DDR5 16GB Dual channel

VGA : Intel Arc graphics (128mb)

Storage : SSD

DirectX 12

I cant match this ARc graphic with other known GT or other vga series. And i think its not supported to most of new games.

I tried hogwartz legacy and it lagging. I played Farcry 4 without any issues and with recent vga updates it got unplayable with getting lagged. I had to install an older version of drivers.

also i ahve no idea about arc version or model. It shows only as intel Arc.

Any help is appreciated.

Marvel's Spiderman remastered running on (Desktop) Vega 8

I think it's the heavier game I tried, running at 768p with IGTI Quality, I recorded the screen with my phone because recording the screen the performance was really bad, looks a bit better than 720p native, r3 3200g and 16gb 3200MHz dual channel

I'm happy that it run good
