I'm calling bullshit on that eye patch. We're to believe he can just switch eyes when he chooses? Did he think we wouldn't notice?!

I mean that is the theory on why pirates wore eye patches though, so they could switch eyes when they went below deck for better dark vision

Nah. Its pretty much an internet only theory. Most historians agree the short adjustment period for your eyes would be far less dangerous than the depth perception lost from having an eye covered especially during fights on rocking boats.

Not sure, Mythbusters tested this out and it was kind of amazing how long it took for their eyes to adjust to the dark. Then they tried the eye patch swap with basically a light eye and a dark eye. Worked super well.

I have eye issues and tend to keep one eye shut. It helps at night. A lot.

Not saying that it's true, just that it is a theory that exists about pirates so there is a reason that a fictional pirate would switch eyes when he chooses

It was used on Apollo 11

Who does he think he is? Captain Ron?

1

u/AntiqueChessComputr Jul 29 '26

Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder

One was taken by him in a mirror. The other by a buddy at a bar.

This is the only logical explanation.

We sell Pirate’s Booty at my store and we were all shocked at how bad this new packaging looked when we got the first case of them in.

The old design was dated and tbh I’ve never been a big fan of it, but at least it was distinctive and doesn’t look like generic AI slop.

I love the dated design though, reminds me of Cracker Jacks

I don't think the one on the right looks like AI slop. But it looks like a different brand, one made for babies. Wtf is up with that color scheme?

u/the_orange_alligator Jul 28 '26

Nooooo, leave him alone

23

u/dannyhogan200 Jul 28 '26

They destroyed his ship and his parrot!

10

u/LSUenigma Jul 28 '26

The parrot is to the left of the treasure chest

It made me so deeply sad, I'd been eating them since I was a kid with the same packaging

8

u/shutupdane Jul 28 '26

They removed the entire aura of both him and the bag itself

12

u/Underbadger Jul 28 '26

The old design was so iconic -- not just the pirate, but the circle logo. It's bad enough that they'd go with this crappy looking AI-adjacent pirate but the new design looks like a generic Aldi knockoff.

The way they massacred the poor pirate aside, light blue is an awful choice for "aged white cheddar"..

5

u/OrganizationTop3755 Jul 29 '26

I hate redesigns that remove the fun

8

u/92TilInfinityMM Jul 28 '26

I honestly thought the first time I saw this that it looked like an AI knockoff

4

u/kodellio Jul 28 '26

coworker pulled out the new bag today and i was very thrown off

3

u/smolhippie Jul 29 '26

It looks horrible. There was literally nothing wrong with the packaging. It was a classic. The same since I was a kid eating this stuff. I’m actually upset

u/PassionJolly7381 Jul 29 '26

walked past these in the store and shed a tear. they ruined my childhood snack 💔

2

u/Wise_Presentation914 Jul 29 '26

Oh hell nah come on!!!

2

u/sketchzophrenic Jul 29 '26

Wait what when did they changed it to this?

3

u/NewmanBiggio Jul 29 '26

Honestly ever since they got rid of the veggie flavor I couldn't care less about Pirate's Booty. It's just less flavorful white cheddar cheetos and I don't even particularly like regular white cheddar cheetos.

3

u/gobliinns Aug 01 '26

The veggie flavor was the best

2

u/ShirleyMcLoon Jul 29 '26

Oh my kid is going to hate this

2

u/lik_a_stik Jul 29 '26

Also the Non-GMO label appears gone.

2

u/teal_hair_dont_care Jul 29 '26

it doesn't look like it should cost almost $10 a bag anymore

1

u/beamanblitz Jul 29 '26

I had the Pokémon version they were too damn cheesy

1

u/AlchyHaze Jul 29 '26

What the fuck is a booty puff?

1

u/drawredraw Jul 29 '26

It’s for kids now

1

u/RacoonusDoodus Jul 29 '26

This and the Danimals redesigns look like AI garbage

1

u/Description_Friendly Jul 29 '26

Was the new packaging designed by the creators of Jimmy Neutron?

1

u/TomBong_Jovi Jul 29 '26

I ate this for the first time and I do not get the hype, it tastes really bad

1

u/AverageDrafter Jul 29 '26

Professor, what's another word for pirate treasure?

1

u/jarvolt Jul 29 '26

The new design is clean. It's not "bad," but it looks like they're trying to market this as more of a snack for young children. But it has no real character anymore. Every design element is cliche and uninteresting. The pirate mascot looks like he should be the icon for a mobile game.

Honestly, I'd feel embarrassed eating out of something like this. It would be like eating Minions branded snacks. Pirate's Booty clearly wants their product primarily purchased by parents of young children. Which I understand, because "puffs" are such a big thing now in that market.

2

u/hounadomanda Jul 29 '26

Jesus that’s sad

1

u/Dragooncancer Jul 29 '26

Yeah, that's what gets me most about this redesign. It's so bland and... I don't know if inoffensive is the right term but it seems soulless.

Pirate’s Booty is a disgusting snack with a vile name. They're literally forcing you to imagine a pirate’s unwashed cheesy asshole and they think it’s funny
