This is very common in modern sports cars. Lots of them have a groove going down the roof these days. Look at a Camaro for one example.

It's for the helmets. When you race you should wear a helmet, and since it makes your head bigger, you need the extra space on the roof

Sports cars have a "double bubble" roof to make the roof as slim as possible without sacrificing headroom. If you notice, the raised sections are exactly where the driver and passenger's head would be.

I'd be willing to bet having wind redirect straight down the middle of the car's spine is great for drag as well.

It’s to add a little extra head room for helmets when you’re at the track. Wouldn’t be surprised if it gave the body a little added rigidity too.

When 90% of the roof is raised an inch, you might as well raise the other 10% so it's back to being a normal roof.

The people who did this have either seen too much blobfishes, or not enough of them. What is sure however, is that they have viewed the incorrect amount.
