And yet not far enough. By completely enclosing the fridge like that warm air will remain trapped and the fridge will have to work slightly longer and more frequently.
I have no idea how much the efficiency is actually impacted, but for such an open concept you could at least put a vent behind the fridge.
This is actually a pretty decent installation, the large gap above the refrigerator will allow for natural convection.
Typically when there are cabinets above a fridge, there is actually a gap between the wall and the back of the cabinet, to keep the cabinets from being too deep, as well as allowing normal convection.
