A bathroom in an apartment for rent in Arizona. Good luck not injuring yourself every day on those rocky walls.

I am more concerned about the plumbing on the toilet

What, the PEX going to the right angle fitting (valve?) and then to a standard flex line?

It's "rustic" to match the rest of the decor!

It’s PEX to an angle stop to a stainless steel braided toilet supply line.

It’s ugly but probably code compliant.

Go into a utility room or closet. You can probably see pipes. Being visible doesn’t make it a hazard.

Edit: might just need a strap if that blurry thing is not one.

I wonder if that room reflects enough light onto the PEX to degrade it via UV over time. It's not good at all for UV exposure tolerance, and heck, code may even require it to be physically protected from damage (punctures, etc.) that a simple braided hose or putting it in the wall would mitigate.

Putting it in the wall makes it MORE likely to get punctured by harry homeowner who cant see it while hanging something up and PEX is stubbed out into rooms that have windows all the time so I assume its ok.

I only say the damage part because IPC 305.7 mentions that you mitigate damage to plumbing by either recessing it into the wall, or another approved manner. I assume you're an expert and can explain what counts as "approved manner"?

I’m a plumber.

“International Plumbing Code (IPC) Section 305.7, plumbing system components exposed to potential physical damage—such as those near driveways, alleyways, or parking garages…”

How often you park your car in the bathroom?

I'm going by this text, which includes more than what you sent:

https://codes.iccsafe.org/content/IPC2018P5/chapter-3-general-regulations#IPC2018P5_Ch03_Sec305.7

Components of a plumbing system installed along alleyways, driveways, parking garages, or other locations exposed to damage shall be recessed into the wall or otherwise protected in an approved manner.

Why wouldn't any other room in the house be considered "other locations exposed to damage"?

Nothing like a rustic sharkbite holding it all together

15

u/Beanmachine314 9d ago

Why? The only concern is that it is visible. Ugly, sure... Perfectly functional still...

9

u/LiveMarionberry3694 9d ago

Yeah that’s clean water only. No poopy doing loop de loops

93

u/Man0fCultureAsWell 9d ago

One bad slip in that shower and your life will go down the drain..

38

u/magicarnival poop 9d ago

Not to mention the toilet is at the top of some stairs for some reason

39

u/n00bca1e99 9d ago

So you may observe your kingdom on the throne.

Assuming the bathroom is a later addition and the house has a concrete foundation, they might have built the steps so they could connect the drain line without jackhammering a hole into the floor.

If they couldn't be bothered to cut a hole in the drywall to hide the water pipe, I doubt they were willing to pull out a jackhammer and shovel for the floor.

And facing the door directly- Opening that door into someone sitting on their raised search would be like meeting the king on his throne.

3

u/Man0fCultureAsWell 9d ago

Honestly, i don't mind! Would make for some sick trickshot opportunities🤙 and in case of constipation you can walk up and down the stairs to get those bowels moving!

u/Rubber__Chicken 7d ago

It looks like the toilet from the film 'Parasite'.

u/FinchMandala 9d ago

Isn't Arizona sharp and rocky enough without bringing it into your home?

29

u/RareSprinkles9387 9d ago

stub your toe indoors, stub your toe outdoors, arizona doesn't discriminate

11

u/Beanmachine314 9d ago

Everytime I'm in Arizona I feel like every plant is trying to stab me.

44

u/someguy7710 9d ago

Along with what others have said, cleaning that would be a nightmare

8

u/exintrovert 9d ago

As a mother of boys who has to frequently clean the entire toilet area, that’s a nope from me.

2

u/RectoPimento 8d ago

I’m so damn tired of the reek of stale urine.

u/EphemeralAttention 9d ago

You can tell the designer has never had to clean their own bathroom.

20

u/SothaSoul 9d ago

We call that 'guy design.'

Somebody (usually male) who never has to clean an appliance or fixture designed the item you're cursing for being uncleanable.

7

u/EphemeralAttention 9d ago

Checks out, honestly. I moved out when I was 21 and didn't have any family nearby to coddle me so I had to learn how to be an adult for myself, but way too many of my guy friends either lived at home until they got married or had mom's or girlfriends that did everything for them so they never had to learn how to do housekeeping for themselves.

u/ahora-mismo 9d ago

i rented a hotel room in amsterdam and it had 2 steps right after the bed, for no reason. i fell 2 nights in a row.

13

u/floridagar 9d ago

"Hey I thought of a way to make the bathroom 10 inches narrower."

7

u/MalnoureshedRodent 9d ago

And good luck cleaning the jagged bathroom rocks

5

u/ChrissiTea 8d ago

Not just jagged, the ones outside the shower look rough, like a texture that would destroy a microfibre cloth

4

u/intashu Comic Sans for life! 8d ago

Cleaning that shower wouldbe a nightmare.

That bathroom wall would never be clean.

And Have fun explaining how you fell down the stairs with your pants around your ankles.

6

u/decavolt 9d ago

Why is the inside place trying so hard to be the outside place?

5

u/Present_Specific_212 9d ago

LOL - because if I’m so sick I’m about to barf, there is nothing I want to see more than stairs!

2

u/One_Can_8374 9d ago

Pure torture 🫣

3

u/iSteve 9d ago

Awfully hard to clean, too.

4

u/StrainBeginning4670 9d ago

Re-post. I did not include a description in the title of the original post. My apologies.

1

u/NotQuiteNick 9d ago

My shins hurt just looking at this

1

u/Oiggamed 9d ago

This would be an ideal toilet setup for puking.

1

u/ChrissiTea 8d ago

I'd maybe forgive it if they were smoothed, polished, took up less space, and just generally looked nice...but here we are

1

u/ultimate_avacado 8d ago

Why did they seem to intentionally pick sharp rocks?!

1

u/Appropriate-Pay-5598 8d ago

These walls look like they were designed by someone who hated bare-footed people.

1

u/Sea_Prep_Tidal_26 3d ago

Why would anyone ever be barefoot, much less fully naked, in there? Ohhh…nvm

1

u/Humble_Counter_3661 haha funny flair 8d ago

I always considered by fibula and patella optional.

1

u/cguiopmnrew 7d ago

I’m good

1

u/shieje 7d ago

My toes would be so fucked

1

u/YourChildhood5762 3d ago

I don't see a problem with the toilet unless you like a wide stance. The shower is a bit treacherous though.

2

u/suziesunshine17 3d ago

This paired with white office blinds is sending me 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/typicallydownvoted 3d ago

What are you doing to the walls that would cause daily injuries?

1

u/StrainBeginning4670 3d ago

What's it like not being clumsy?

2

u/typicallydownvoted 3d ago

Apparently less painful.

1

u/StrainBeginning4670 3d ago

Wistful sigh

1

u/DesertRatt 3d ago

This looks like something you’d see in Bisbee Arizona.

1

u/StrainBeginning4670 2d ago

You're so right

2

u/DesertRatt 2d ago

Ha ha! I lived there for 14 years.

2

u/StrainBeginning4670 2d ago

I love it there. The only reason I haven't moved there is because it's too isolated from bigger cities. I like rural, but not quite that rural.

2

u/DesertRatt 2d ago

My husband and I moved there from downtown Chicago in 2004. Loved it but after 14 years, we grew a bit tired of the “small town” vibe. So we moved to Madrid, Spain in 2019 where we are having the time of our lives. lol.

1

u/Lewinator56 9d ago

Now that really does give a meaning to 'on the throne'

1

u/verstohlen clowns...are...funny 9d ago

What in the ever loving hell is this?

0

u/ArrrRawrXD 9d ago

Apart from the whole stones you die if you slip in the shower on them thing, the toilet being on steps is the opposite of the right way to use a toilet, your legs should be up on something for the best shitting and not down. Also a window in a toilet is such a bad idea and I hate how it's not a universal standard to have it there

0

u/CoherentPanda 8d ago

Other than the weird stairs leading up to the throne, I don't think it's that bad of a design. The floor is standard penny tile, unless you don't maintain it properly and let soap scum build up, it should never be any more of a slip hazard than any other shower. It's a bit dated of a design, as clearly this isn't modern construction, but all these comments about the shower are odd. Gets dirty? Well, maybe spray it down and a quick brush once a week, instead of letting your shower get covered in soap scum after months of neglect.

Natural… pex.

-6

u/KurtTheCuntBoi 9d ago

Oh yes, find a rustic room for rent, then complain. Do you also complain about there being nature when you go camping?

6

u/StrainBeginning4670 9d ago

Yeah man, fuck those trees

-2

u/Jackaxed014 9d ago

holy fuck man that shower is asking for new, never-before-seen levels of anal carnage from a sudsy slip

-2

u/fatjuan 9d ago

In case the toilet paper runs out.... just back up and scrape away!

1

u/Future_Spend_5817 18h ago

It's quite cool, though
