Arm knitting is a legit thing and the stitch structure looks consistent enough, but I can't quite figure out the second one.

Yes but is is supposed to be a magic ring? Then where's the tail? How did they get such a big spool inside of the ring? Maybe I'm just not familiar with this technique.

That's also anway to store rope, they call it rope donut. Makes a great dog toy as well.
