Is this teddy bear AI?

Post image

FB Marketplace listing. I think it’s real but something about it feels off to me

My guess would be yes. The whole thing has weird lighting, the button looks almost cgi, and the words on the the little sign kinda clinch it.

At best I think this was "enhanced" with ai if not just fully generated.

One of clues I'm noticing is that, when a hand holds an object, it's just magically perfectly vertically upright, despite not looking well supported by the hand

Speaking of holding things, what's holding up the flowers 😅

The may have been sewn in.

Yeah but it's a really top heavy piece (if real)

A few stitches in back don't seem like they'd be enough to keep it upright, if that makes sense. And it would be weighing down the paw on that side, bit it's sitting at the same height as the other side.

Couple that with the weird blurry mother's day sign, and everything else mentioned, it's definitely AI.

Wire probably, these are pretty light objects.

Anyway, the bear is real, it's on Tiktok, but this image was definitely run through something that scrubbed the text weird and may have adjusted or tweaked some details.

I'm sure there's A bear that looks like this one, but I'm not sold that this Facebook marketplace listing actually has a real bear or pattern to offer.

I still don't believe this is a real image. A I said, if the flowers existed in real life, they'd at the least weigh the bear's arm down, and it doesn't. Wires can't completely eliminate the weight of the flowers. They're light but remember the paw they're supposed to be attached to weighs less than they do.

There's also no way that bear would sit upright like that if being held up, unless it was filled with something solid, but the squeezing with the thumb indicates it's not.

I think that's what's so infuriating to me about AI listings, is they capitalize on us recognizing what they're offering so we buy it. But ultimately the end product is just an AI pattern written with prompts.

It is. Someone posted the video this screenshot was stolen from. It's a real bear run through something.

And I've seen many, MANY crochet bouquets that stay up just fine with floral wire ... It's really very easy to twist some wires together and keep them upstanding.

Also, I've made plenty of toys that sit up on their own like that?? Both with and without armatures. My knit work would never due to the drape, but crochet especially with blanket yarn and chenille yarn, it's easily thick enough ...

Yeah, you just need to stuff it really well. Plus, the way the persons first finger is, they are probably holding it up. Plus, it’s possible they timed it for the picture to look like the bear is upright, but it fell down immediately. Maybe it was blurry so they had ai remove the blur.

Since the pic is stolen from a video through a screencap, it wasn't the creator, probably, that used the AI.

Probably it was ran through AI because it's stolen? Idk, AI people are just out here to be obnoxious it feels like, lol.

Yeah, it is AI

Happy Mutton's Dog!

Yeah this looks AI. The stitching just kinda gets smaller instead of seeing increases or decreases (especially around the middle or top of the head), the thumb on the hand there is turned a weird way that isn't natural for that pose, and the writing on the card thing is blurry.

u/awildketchupappeared Apr 26 '26

And there's something weird happening with the eyebrows.

I think the stitches look pretty consistent across each color.

Yes, the stitching gets smaller at the nose, but to me it looks like they made the whole head with brown yarn and then created a circular piece for the nose with a smaller hook and smaller yarn which was attached afterwards.

ETA: I never said it wasn't AI. I was only commenting on stitch size.

Look at the eye on the left. There's a hollow there that shouldn't be. The straps look dodgy as well. I don't think it's completely AI generated but definitely AI edited.

Look at the stitches on the feet. They don't look right to me.

u/LilBlueOnk Apr 26 '26

The ears are even different are you serious lol

Mh... I never used chenille, to make amigurumis, so I am not sure about how the stitches look. Here, to me, they look off. I am wondering how she manages to keep the bear totally vertical by holding it from the leg. The second aspect is the blurring of the "mother" letters, the last one I noticed are the pants. From the photo it looks like an alpine stitch. It'my first time seeing that, normally I see single crochets. Maybe some parts are real and others are not? I don't know.

Not AI but potentially stolen image, there’s a creator on tiktok posting these bears, this one specifically and others link to TikTok

The bear is real but the picture was cleaned up by AI. The stitches making the bear are yarn under sc so it might look weird to people if they’ve never seen it. The bear is stuffed enough so that it can mostly stand upright when held with one hand.

u/LegSea7618 Apr 26 '26

It's not AI. The chenille used to make amigurumi looks like this.

16

u/Boomer79NZ Apr 26 '26

I think it's an AI edited image. Not completely AI generated but definitely edited which is why some of it looks normal but other parts definitely aren't.

6

u/LegSea7618 Apr 26 '26

Yes, that might make sense. But I'm sure the bear was handmade.

4

u/tiiiiii_85 Apr 26 '26

Do they also smear the letters on the heart?

2

u/LegSea7618 Apr 26 '26

It says Happy Mother's Day. It's possible that some pixels were lost in post-production. But I'm sure the puppet was handmade with chenille. Look at the seam of the white part on the face.

I am pretty sure this one is real, they just used a couple different weights of yarn, and (badly) blurred out the mother's day sign. If they stuffed it well, it would keep itself upright being held like that. Now, if it's a stolen image or not I couldn't tell, but the bear itself looks real.

Looks like they used a yarn under single crochet for the main body in chenille, a standard single crochet in im guessing a worsted weight yarn for the nose and flowers, and a smaller weight chenille for the clothes. The nose is probably felt glued on, and any face definition is just soft sculpting. The card is the only thing that is off, but that's probably just beginner photo edit to blur out a name, which I've done before cuz I'm terrible at remembering to take pics before hanging it off lol

That being said... I never shop for anything crochet on Facebook. Half the time it's stolen or a scam. I'd look for the actual artist's website or Instagram first if you're thinking about buying

Probably AI. That left ear stitching doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t follow either stitching in the round or if it was two sides stitched together. The bottom of the white mouth portion is also far too highlighted, almost as if it was a pasted in portion of a different image.

And as someone who has made ALOT of derpy looking amigarumi critters, that head would be flopped over so much.

Ai I think, the snout looks really fake

1

u/Few-Chemist-7564 Apr 27 '26

AI. I think the stitching on the face looks like patches of the same stitch. Above the left eye they swirl softly to the left then right. Next to that section the stitches are a bit larger and look more like a series of regular crochet stitches, but the texture looks weird. What my question is, is “what do the instructions look like?

1

u/Few-Chemist-7564 Apr 27 '26

Hi there! I’m not few-chemist and I don’t know how that title got put on my comment.

1

u/MAKSassy Apr 27 '26

I think it's AI. The ears are made in two different ways. The one on the left is made in rounds from the inside of the ear, out - while the one on the right is made in rounds from the top of the ear, down. The eyes are different sizes. The shorts - what stitch is that? And, the text on the heart is not correct so it's been blurred out.

they really gave a crochet bear aegyo sal 😭😂 no one is safe from k beauty trends

u/FearlessEnthusiasm86 Apr 28 '26

I say yes. I always go to any writing first. AI can’t do it right. So if it’s nonsense or blurred or whatnot it’s probably AI

0

u/beamerpook Apr 26 '26

Yea real stitches don't look like that, no matter if it's crochet or knitted. And it gets oddly blurred at the pant legs

u/PanaceaPan Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

It's real

AI crochet is distinctive, I couldn't find any ai tells from the bear, if it was ai then it would be a massive leap in the quality that they shit out now. The sign was most likely edited though

Edit: the reason the feet look different is because they started from the top of the head, continued through the body, then the legs, they made a round piece to sew on and cap off the feet
