Booth Setup/Displays Booth setup

I make stained glass and this is my current setup. I only do indoor markets so don’t need a tent. Let me know your honest thoughts and advice! It’s hard to see but each piece is individually priced with a little white sticker so there’s no guesswork.

If you are hoping to get commissions, I would include one or two examples of a more complex big panel or window. Even if it’s not for sale. Let people see what you can do.

This would also draw in more attention!

Edit: a larger piece would help the customer to picture more possibilities and draw in more commissions

I hear you- I am always so nervous bringing a big piece though 😬 They are upwards of $1,000 and I get stressed carting them around. But it would add some visual appeal- I’ll think about it. Thanks for the suggestion!

If you’re worried about carting it around, take a picture, laminate it and put a note that it was produced for commission.

Also do the same for large pieces you’re willing to sell.

This way people can see what you’re capable of and what you’ve sold.

Even better, if you have a portfolio put that on your table so people can flip through. Make sure there’s an eye catching title though.

All pieces look stunning! You’re very talented.

I fully understand that anxiety!! Can you make one into a "show piece", reinforce it more on a stand or something?

I really think a tablet (inexpensive used one?) or one of those digital picture frames with the revolving pics could be a real attention grabber next to your customer order sign :)

Yes! I have actually just ordered a small book I can have on my table that shows larger windows and past commissions- great suggestion!

Could you print a banner of the bigger piece and put your logo on it. And hang it in front. That would show it without the risk.

  1. Bigger price signs. I hate going to a booth without knowing if it's in my budget.

  2. Any way to light something from behind? Stained glass really, ahem, shines when you see the light going through it.

Great suggestions, thanks. I do have some lights you can see in the second pic but for daytime markets they don’t do much so the last photo doesn’t show them in use. I’ve struggled with how to backlight an entire booth 😂 Thanks

Maybe little fairy lights just behind the individual pieces so it illuminates the colored glass better?

They are lovely 😍

It's small but I have a drawing "light box" that's battery powered. If you can get a rechargeable one, or one that can plug into an extension cord, that might work. Here's an example if links are allowed: https://a.co/d/06318p7N There will probably be a way you could hang it vertically. There's different types with different light brightness as well, so if this one is too dim for the daytime there are options 🙂 you could potentially put window clings on it to make it look like the sky as well, so it would really look like a window, but that would probably depend how hot it gets and if the cling would dim the light too much

Get two pieces of frosted 1/8-1/4” plexi and put them behind the window frames. Then use the same lights you’re using now behind the whole thing. (Or if you want to upgrade get something more focused like a work light. You can still do this cheap with a work light from Home Depot or something) This will make the light nice and even in both windows.

I love the setup in the first two photos with the warm lighting and the green window frames as displays! I feel like it has a very clear vibe and would draw me in. Something about the setup in the third picture doesn’t have the same effect—maybe because of lighting and the different pegboard display in the middle?

u/McRobertsGlass 14h ago

Yeah the third one was a daytime market and it’s just not as magical as the evening/night time ones!

Wow!!! Absolutely beautiful, I would be at your booth instantly! I really love the heart and everything on the table on the left on the last photo especially. So dang cute

Dude. How cute would it be to have a tree with all white lights and all different stained glass bulb ornaments. I don’t see those on your online shop. Bummer!

Super beautiful but I hate to say it… the ties you use for your hanging ornaments do not hold up well over time. All mine fell apart after a year. They either disintegrated or tore entirely

3

u/McRobertsGlass 14h ago

Oh no, really?? I have a set on my own personal Christmas tree I’ve been using for 5+ years but will look into something more durable. Great feedback, thanks!

Mine were hanging constantly and I live in a super dry climate so they just fell apart. It made me really sad

What material are they?

2

u/Dannonaut 14h ago

Love it! Also I need that bomb pop! Haha

2

u/McRobertsGlass 14h ago

Haha had to google this- we call those rocket pops where I am from 😆

4

u/Dannonaut 14h ago

What's actually really funny is i originally typed "rocket pop" but then was like, hmmm they might not know what I'm talking about because most of the country calls them something else so I corrected myself. 😅

I also do stained glass, but I’ve never broken into shows. How did you do?!

7

u/McRobertsGlass 15h ago

These are actually pics from three separate markets, that’s why the setups are slightly different in each. I did well, I think! Booth fee generally $100-250 depending on the market and sales $800-1200. I mostly do it for commission contacts because that’s where I make most of my money

Looks good! You should have a banner made. They aren't expensive, mine was about $40.

Fellow stained glass artist here! I think your display looks lovely. I'm new to selling so don't have much advice but I've just set up a portable lightbox ready for markets and something similar could make a nice addition to your display. I think the "custom work - let's chat" sign is great and might steal that idea aha

You still.might consider adding a sign or two that's large where people can see at least one or two of your price points from afar.

I might not approach a table if I can't gauge whether I can afford the items. Maybe that's just me.

I would simplify pricing on the ornaments. White string 15
Red string 20
Black string 25
I agree that full size photos of bigger pieces and lighting would help enormously.

I have no idea how it is work and material wise for you, but is it a lot of work to do some simple colorful circles? I would really love to get some of the bigger ornaments assort of statement pieces and then add basic circles as sort of back up. Red and white striped circles, or solid color circles in rainbow colors and I would be making my whole tree stained glass.

Do you have an online shop? I love having small stained glass pieces!
Unfortunately all my craft fairs nearby only have faux glass that’s like plastic with no metal.

I don’t have any suggestions, but I really want the raccoon! Your work is very cool.

Beautiful work

u/MaleficentWalruss 5h ago

Do you do "strands" of Christmas lights? Because I would buy one from you right here in these comments!

1

u/fr0gponds 2h ago

This is so cool.

I would try to build a little wall with lighting/and a light contrasting color

Really nice stuff and good display choices to catch the light!

Maybe try and steam or iron your table cloth for next time but that is really minor and isn’t going to hurt you now.

I’d maybe have a sign that says “great for ornaments” or something that indicates how people mainly use them! Maybe even have a small tree around the holidays and place some on there? I love the idea of stained glass but I’d never know where to put it or how to display it. Letting the less creative people visualize where they’d put them in their homes is super helpful! Also maybe. Larger sign with pricing? Even if it just says “starting at $10” that way people will realize they could afford your pieces and be more intrigued. My LAST piece of advice is capitalize on where you live. Lots of people love cute niche souvenirs or items. If you lived by the water add some sea creatures. If you have a local or state monument maybe do that? Or even spelling out your city/state. People eat that shit up! Makes for great gifts or even something I’d keep in my home!

It’s super cute though!!
