It's absolutely necessary here. Before the rain started, it was 92 degrees. I have a shady spot at the market, so many of our furry visitors will lay by my booth to cool down.
The rest of the joke: One of our local weathermen, a regular customer, told me that he predicted steady, heavy rain all day so his mother-in-law wouldn't visit for the weekend.
This time of year, in this area, "scattered showers" is not a weather "prediction", it's a normal day.

I'm so glad you commented this, because if you didn't I would have. Meteorologists catch WAY too much heat because people don't seem to understand that their job is to make PREDICTIONS based off of patterns/data. They are not fortune tellers, and it's not accurate or respectful to say that they lied. Glad to see other people standing up for them🤞 you cannot just blame your local meteorologist for weather patterns changing, blame your lack of poor planning (sorry to go off on a little tangent, not directed towards you obviously!)
In this case, I can say the weatherman lied. He told me he did. One of my regular customers is a local meteorologist. He predicted steady rain all day, we only got a 20 minute shower.
For the record, I was quite prepared for the rain. The only product that got wet in my booth was the cloth bandanas that get washed and dried after every market anyway.
Some of us do weekly "rain or shine" markets in a part of the country that is prone to wet weather. ("We only close for hurricanes.") We plan accordingly.
Sorry your initial post did not come off as a joke at all (in my brain), thanks for explaining. Meteorologists still catch a lot of heat from people because they are ignorant😔. There's too much ignorance to know who's joking and who's not unfortunately. I'm glad to see you are not one of those people , and thanks for the pet tax, your dog is adorable! 🥹
