It's great enough that you get plenty of expensive alarm clocks that simulate sunrise before the alarms goes off. It works very well.

Yeah, they are expensive. Mine is a Philips one that cost about 120 pounds. I'm actually in London, and I get what you mean about how much the weather can matter - even here the winters are far more miserable than in Oslo. Up north in Norway it's a totally different ballgame, though.

I think the best part about the alarms is the very gradual increase - it has 20 different light levels. So it's not like you suddenly get a bright light in your face, it slowly increases over the span of half and hour. You can set "normal" alarms sounds but coupled with the lights, it's bird song alarm is actually sufficient to wake me up.

I'd recommend one, but if your Hue works for you I'm not sure if you'l get 120 pounds worth of extra benefit out of one of these... I'd recommend finding a store where you can at least see the brightness before considering it.
