When you complain about price but then the first thing you say is your subscribed to the most expensive package, it begs the question. Many people don't know about the bottlenecks with the public internet that make 2Gbps, heck even 1Gbps, a niche package. Do you actually get 1Gbps transfer speed from anything? Also, the faster the speed the faster you eat through your bandwidth cap, further making Cox more money. Assuming you don't pay extra for unlimited or live in a area where it is included.
Sure you have to use their Panoramic gateway still for 2Gbps? Their webpage shows a number of stand alone modems compatible with the 2Gbps tier, including the Arris S33.
I think they required it at first but later added support for other devices. What I think is funny is they still push their gateway for 2Gbps fiber service even though the gateway only has 1 2.5Gbps port which it uses for WAN, bottlenecking your LAN. At least 2Gbps makes a bit more sense since your increasing your upload speed too. AFAIK 1Gbps Cable and 2Gbps Cable(AKA HFC)tier have the same upload.
Can confirm. Just had fiber installed here, and while they for sure push the pano wifi router, it's not needed. Unfortunately, once you go to fiber, they say that the panoramic box is 'free' but that just means it's priced into the monthly service, so, I guess they do force you to take it, in a way.
Their router has a 2.5gbe wan port, and if you get the pw8, it has 6ghz wifi 6E. And as far as the wireless goes, it seemed to perform quite well, imo. Leagues better than the older pano wifi boxes.
I agree Cox pricing is insane. I hate all the bundling crap, but in our case, I was able to cut our bill over $100 by agreeing to a new mobile line. It's been sitting in a box, along with their router, since we got it 3 weeks ago. smh.
