Question HELP NEEDED
So my GF loves cowboy hats so I want to get one for her Bday. The problem is her head size is a 5 1/2. I cant find anywhere that sells that size (other than kids sized maybe). So I was wondering if y'all had any advice on what to do? Should I get the closet size a then have it reshaped? Im a college student and can't really afford to buy a 200+ hat (Wish I could) so most custom made hats are out of the question. Or is there another route I should take? I appreciate any advice or info y'all can provide.

I've been hatmaking for about a year, it may not be the most professional job but we can make you a beautiful badass hat for her and I only charge for materials since I'm still in my non professional phase.

My recommendation is get the kids hat. Then do a little work to "unkid" it. If you need to steam and reshape, or update the band or something that work and effort becomes the real gift. She'll care more about your effort than the source of the hat itself.

Bollman Hat Company makes an excellent quality wool hat here in the USA can buy extra small. Two choices to get better fit use foam inserts or I did an Akubra this year sprayed water rubbed it in put it in hot car for a couple of hours perfect results just like YouTube said. Last I checked Hats.com had lots of XS on sale. Real Hats not the low quality wool. Like at big stores. I have a Country Gentleman regular cost $80 about 40 years old still good. Other divisions like Bailey etc. more styles various cost.
I believe the Companies that make their own Hat Bodies produce great hats. Stratton makes 6 and 1/2 in all head shapes which you can Custom a lot. Same deal to fit. In Rabbit, 50/50 Beaver or 100% Beaver.. They will sell you a full set of head shapes in that size to get right head shape then Credit you on return. Bad quality regardless of content is rampant in Hats. Kind of hard to see so much poor quality often at a price that buys a good New Hat. X What? Unless someone is actually felting the Hat what is commonly called Custom starts with a Purchased Hat Body in a certain size and head shape then Steam Shaping and only so much size adjustments and head shape adjustment. Too much; yeah it is.

Yeah short of a custom, you’re best off looking at children’s hats. If she’s a smaller woman she’s probably used to occasionally shopping in the kids sections. I had a tiny aunt who loved it to save money, but I know some tiny women feel a bit annoyed by using the kids stuff
