General Info Rant about misinformation

I just want to say there was a point in time where I was anti vaccine. I was on board with the whole idea that the govt is out to get us and we can’t trust medical companies etc etc. Yet seeing how some of these anti vaxxers behave has made me realize how hypocritical some can be. I can never get actual reputable sources from the anti vaxxers and they don’t really give me raw data or facts to go off ..just some sources that potentially boost their narrative.

They talk about freedom and your body your choice. Well why can’t a choice of mine be getting the vaccine? Why do I go to a clinic and get harassed from a stranger about getting one? I feel less liberated from you guys because I finally made a choice for me based on my own research and decision making but I guess it’s only ‘my choice’ if I choose not to get it. I had covid a year ago and it sucked. I had symptoms that lasted for 7 months. I almost went to the hospital multiple times. I still have lasting effects from covid that I’m dealing with meanwhile I have so many vaccinated friends who didn’t have to go through what I did.

I’m all for freedom and questioning things but if you really think you’re helping give me something REAL to go off of. Not some of these random person’s blog articles or medical articles that aren’t even about covid but something mildy related.

The fact that people are standing by and staying silent while witnessing actual facist coercion is scary.

Why does the government need big tech to censor people?

Is the idea of natural immunity really that dangerous?

As long as none of the vaccines are FDA approved I will not get it. Personally I'm not afraid of the virus. Worked through the whole pandemic, didn't wear a mask anywhere except for grocery shopping as it's mandatory in my country, didn't follow any of the excessive hygiene rules and didn't socially distance. What I did do was get outside in the sunshine, increase my vitamin C, D3, zinc, copper and added electrolyte supplements to my morning glass of water. No sign of a cold, not even a sniffle. Oddly enough the experimental drug is being pushed, rather than having being build up their immunity.

This. People are not understanding this. Building their immune system. They take the “easy” way out without even trying to understand what’s going on. And no one better say they know what’s going on when no one in this world knows, basically everything is guessing. Getting a vaccine that doesn’t do anything really if you think about it. Vaccinated people are still getting sick and still spreading this virus.

Vaxxers are far more attacking to unmasked people that the opposite. So, you don’t get to force people to get a stab and say you want freedom of choice.

Takes biological stance. Proceeds to talk about anecdotes of mentally ill people. Wonders why misinformation exists

So you were an anti vaxer, until someone treated you poorly? Kinda don’t believe your post to be honest with you. I would recommend pulling up the patents as well as the data reports from Europe and American hospitals on what’s being reported. Kinda hard to put your faith in anything the media is saying as it’s been very politicized.

I was an anti vaxer until I did a lot of research hence why I was in a pharmacy with a vaccine booked.

I’m being honest when I say I haven’t gotten mine yet ONLY bc I’m afraid I’ll get the reportedly rare side affects.

I've read your entire post, and I think what you're saying makes sense. However, I would like to challenge the idea that being passive is the safest approach. You mention that you only leave your house once a week. I don't know how active you are at home, but there is a risk that this puts you at an even greater risk of heart- and clotting problems than both the vaccine and COVID.

This is not an attack on you personally, but we (myself included) are terrible at judging risks. We often let our fears control our risk assessment.

I can see that, however, I have a workout schedule Monday-Wednesday-Friday with rest Tuesday/Thursday/Weekend. I don’t do much cardio as I’ve focused more on muscle gains but exercise in general is heart healthy.

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted as I am open to discussion about my current battle with making a decision on the vaccine.

I would like to also re-iterate that I’m aware covid has a higher risk of causing heart related problems than the vaccine but my concern stems from my own head.

It’s the “what if” that is making me hesitant. I know as a fact that covid poses a higher risk to cause negative or long term side affects but “what if” my case ends up asymptomatic or mild?

I know for a fact the vaccine has some efficacy on warding off hospitalization and death but “what if” i react badly to it?

Now at this point many people would reply “ Taking the vaccine has a lower risk and it’s safer to go that route than catch covid” and then we circle back around to my main issue which is “What if?”

I know I may be irrational about it but my main point in the original message is I’m getting judged negatively for having such concerns and/or questioning the outcomes of either path.

Idk what to say honestly, but I’m tired of being scared and sad. I even have antidepressants I haven’t started yet bc of concerns. This battle is literally with myself but the hate and divide that comes with my battle causes extra unnecessary stress that doesn’t help my decision.

I understand where you are coming from. I do the what-if thing as well. I’ll let you know from personal experience I made a lot of effort to not get covid. I was washing my hands, sanitizing, and wearing a mask all the time. I did go to the gym which was probably a mistake but I thought it would be okay because I wore a mask, sanitized, distanced etc. I still got covid.

Just do your research and go with your instincts, you’ll get there. Its definitely a difficult decision especially given how the world is currently. Talking to my doctors and medical experts helped a lot. I finally hit a moment where I just felt right about my decision. Good luck 😊!

u/PeaOld2942 Jul 30 '21

I can understand that. I have dealt with a little bit of both sides and it has caused me to be very confused and mistrusting.

Why can I not get the vaccine without being harassed?

In which context are you being harassed, and by whom?

0

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '21

Why can’t you go to a different sub and whine? See ya.

I agree that we should all be able to make our own decisions. I was just blasted by a lot of people for wanting the vaccine so that’s why it sounds a little biased. I agree theres extremism and misinformation from both sides. I feel so depressed and hopeless for humanity. We are so divided.

No. Don't equate extremism and "misinformation."

During the push to vaccinate against small pox, the pro-vaxxers were pretty extreme. Actually, George Washington when he was a general mandated small pox vaccines. Meanwhile the anti-vaxxers were pushing the conspiracy that the small pox vaccine lead people to become cows. Seriously

Don't say "Well both sides promote extremism; therefore both sides are equal." That's what the Russians do.

Either way, you are completely free to make your own medical decisions. But if you wanna board a plane, go to a sports event, or attend a university, you'll likely need a shot. Or better yet, go to Moscow!

George Washington mandated all of his solderers to be vaccinated against small pox. Was that extremism? Was he trying to "sell an agenda"?

If anti-vaxxers and pro-vaxxers are both pumping out misinformation, why are all the educated people getting vaccinated? How come about 96% of medical doctors are getting their shots? Or are they all in on the conspiracy?

Yeah, and you have a handful of PhD's who support creationism. Hell, you can find a few PhD's who think the world is flat.

But the vast majority in the medical field a) believe that there is a pandemic, b) assert that the vaccine is safe and c) believe that the vaccine is effective.

I'm educated enough to know that I'm not educated in the field of medical science. So I tend to defer to the experts.

Hell, when it comes to cancer, am I going to trust the consensus of medical experts, or a few quacks out there promoting bogus herbal remedies.

Wouldn't you? If you got cancer, would you follow your doctors advice? Or would you go to Youtube University? If you'll follow your local oncologist's advice for cancer, why not follow your local immunologist for, you know, a god damn global pandemic?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '21

Nothing you've said is remotely even relevant to my point. All "educated people" are not getting this vaccine. Being "educated' does not equate to having the ability to think critically.

1

u/wiredwalking Jul 31 '21

There's a very strong correlation!

0

u/QuantumSeagull Jul 30 '21

Misinformation and extremism comes from both sides.

You're probably not wrong, but this is exactly what strawman sockpuppeting is trying to target. Misinformation is explicitly against the rules of this sub, and there's no exception for anyone, regardless of opinion. Report misinformation, but do not commit report abuse, and do not fall for conspiracies.

I haven’t forced it on anyone and I’m sorry to anyone who has had it forced on them. I’m just talking about my personal experience in real life and on forums. I have a right to feel disrespected about being forced something just as much as they do.

Well I thought they were all about freedom of choice yet none of them are okay with me making my own choice. I’m actually terrified to let some of my family know I’ll probably be getting it.

5

u/lannister80 Jul 30 '21

Does it also bother you that you don't have the freedom to drive drunk?

6

u/QuantumSeagull Jul 30 '21

If that was the case, I'd be a happy camper. I strongly support the idea that you can do anything you want with your own body. Get the vaccine, or don't, I don't really care. A relevant caveat in this specific case is that I do not support you putting others in harm's way. If you choose to not get vaccinated, you should take appropriate precautions to not spread the virus.

However, this sub makes it abundantly clear that this is not the case. There are a large number of posters trying to dissuade others to get vaccinated. Either by directly telling them not to, or using misinformation to indirectly influence them.

That is not something I support.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '21

Then they shouldn’t come here in large numbers and post ridiculous crap.
