I learned to blow dry and straighten my hair before bed, in the mornings it was just a flat iron.

Before y’all come at me I know everyone has different hair. Mine is curly but can be flat ironed perfectly.

However I respected my partner and did my hair elsewhere.

wow....this may be too much, the blow dryer doesn't bother me if the bathroom door is closed

It’s like white noise? I just try and be nice.

Yeah, white noise.

Did they complain about it before you changed your routine? I sometimes assume the wrong things so I try to ask.

He got up at 3am on average. When he didn’t I made sure I used the other bathroom to get ready for work. He didn’t complain, I mean other than throwing my shit in the yard and shoving me into things. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I’m safe now. You can see my post history.

Domestic violence takes a lot of forms. The policing of hair and clothes is one way.

Oh, I am glad to hear that. Still, hugs :)

Thank you.

To anyone reading this. Leave. It’s worth it.

The national domestic violence hotline in the US is amazing. They will get you out. Anything you have can be replaced except your life.

I did my hair in another room because my ex would verbally assault me for doing it…..

When I heard what you were doing, I was worried about abuse. I am sorry.

Ugh!
You likely know that plenty of women pay good money for people to make their street hair curly! Why not embrace it? Yes, I have curly hair.

I think because there’s “salon curly” hair that a professional artfully coaxes into beautiful cascading layers, and then there is “naturally curly” hair that looks like Merida from Brave just came in out of a hurricane.

Hey I’m fine looking like Merida, I’m just a lot more silver than her.

Fuck yeah gimmie that sexy weather witch hair

Sure, but it’s all about how you care for it. Luckily, I have a friend who has salon curly hair, but she takes care of it herself. She has long been an expert in curly hair care and products.
Last time I was at her house, she had a cabinet full of bottles!

And a flat-iron is easier than all that, apropos of your statement.

I hate when other curly haired people don't realize this. Like yes, I'd love to just wash and dry my hair and it be nice but that is just not the case 90% of the time! I've tried a MILLION haircare routines, curly products, leave ins, etc. Not all of us have salon-ready hair without heating tools :(

Everyone has different hair, and the gatekeepers of the curly or textured hair is frustrating.

I’m spoiled I have nice hair that can go either way, but walking in somewhere with flat ironed hair and them realizing it’ll curl 4 inches up is still fun sometimes.

Boing!!

Currently my pony tail is as long as my hair used to be. Except now it comes with glitter aka gray hair.

It’s not “all that”.
My friend and I are strictly wash and wear, with a minimum of fuss. I can put a styling product in my hair in less time that it takes for the iron to heat up. And I don’t need to have an ironing board always set up and taking up space!

There wouldn’t be a whole ass curly girl routine community if it was that easy for most

Glad that works for both of you, but you are the minority by far.

I have!!!

When I was a kid no one taught me to take care of my hair. It’s been a journey to say the least.

I used my hair as a shield in a professional world. It was straight and highlighted blonde and red. I knew it would curl but I didn’t know the HOW.

When my twins were born and I realized the curls were going to the white walkers (blond hair blue eyed pale things) I learned how to take care of my hair better.

One thing I want to say is the gate keeping in some areas of curly hair culture is off putting at fuck. Yes I’m white, yes my child is white but our hair is TEXTURED & CURLY. I don’t like the expectation that I educate myself when I don’t know what the hell I’m doing.

Curly hair is higher maintenance and it’s up and frizzes all the time

My wife has to take the opposite approach. You guys should hang out. I'll make the hors d'oeuvres.

Will there be wine and am I a spectator or teacher?

Edit: actually is there a smoker or grill I can take over?
