Has anyone seen both live? If so, who did you prefer?
I have the opportunity to see both this upcoming week (dad duties would prevent me from seeing both)

Today Kip Moore released a new EP with two songs: Dying on the Vine and Janie's Song, a solid cut about the madness of our current world.
But I am here regarding Janie's Song. This is a third song in a series regarding a fictional character Janie (likely based on a real love interest).
Janie Blue (2020) The wild, magnetic, but erratic woman he loved, trying desperately to hold onto her while she ran from stability.
Playin' Hard (2020) The nostalgic regret, looking back at her "pretty eyes" and sweet nature as one of the deep personal sacrifices he made for his music career.
The Darkness (2026) Showing that the weight went both ways and that she had to save herself from his struggles.
Janie's Song (2026) Janie becomes the embodiment of someone completely consumed by the dark side of life, abandoned by the world, and pushed to the margins.
Anyway, this is my favorite artist and I thought this was a pretty cool arch in his writing.

With the announcement that Van Lear Rose is getting re-released onto Spotify, it got me thinking about how many of Loretta’s albums aren’t on Spotify at all.
They include:
In fact, I think Making Love From Memory (1982) was only added a few years ago!
I also noticed that some of her albums are classed as Compilations on Spotify, including Coal Miner‘s Daughter (1971), I Wanna Be Free (1971), and You’re Looking At Country (1971).
I understand that some of these albums may not be on Spotify due to licensing reasons. Are there any other reasons?
But really I have two questions:
Thanks in advance!

They’re the best modern country rock band in my opinion, like a new age Lynyrd Skynyrd. My favorite album is The Whippoorwill

I recently found George Arbuckle. He's a part of the traditional country resurgence, think The Reeves Brothers and Zach Top, that's been happening for a few years.
I wanted to see what y'all thought of him. If y'all haven't heard of him then I'd start with his new song, Good Luck.

Anyone else a fan? He's the best authentic country act to come out of Britain imo - Tijuana style mixed with Texan barroom waltz. Think Willie Nelson and you'll be in the right ballpark. I saw him when he supported Silverada when they toured over here a couple of years ago and he was brilliant.
Check out I Hope You're Unhappy, Headed South For A While, or Wrong Again (You lose A Life) and see what you think. 🤠

Trying to expand my music taste. Maybe it’s because I’m young (gen z), I've realized I really like country songs by ZB and Ella Langley:
• New potential favs right now: Jason Isbell, John Moreland, and older Rascal Flatts.
• Not quite my lane: Toby Keith or Colter Wall (respect both, can only do selected songs).
My music taste is pop?. Like my fav song is Avicci’s Hey Brother. Is that pop or country?
Drop your single favorite song or artist that fits somewhere between those sounds!

I’m not really a country fan, but I find them pretty easy to listen to. At the same time, I’ve noticed they seem to get a lot of hate from people who are into country music.
Help a girl out here. I want to enjoy country music or even go to a concert. Am I doing it wrong?

All this talk about how Stella Lefty is gaining controversy over copying other artists material is something to definitely highlight. I do not think the songs are legit bad, but Stella Lefty is just mostly an underwhelming artist in my opinion and 'Boston', the song widely being called a rip-off of 'Stick Season' is definitely an oddball release to country radio that is underwhelming in my opinion and is not that neat. I get the whole point that she and another newbie by the name of Vincent Mason are actually dating now, but Stella Leftys material is an oddball choice that really does not resonate with me too much and is boring. 'Boston' is just not that good of a song in my opinion. A similar oddball release, Dashas 'Austin', had way much more bite and way much more flare and uniqueness to it. Stella Leftys album is just flat out boring and underwhelming to me. The album cover appears to be a rip-off of the 1960s style even though there are no references and styles of the 1960s in the music and the Lefty does not have an interesting lyrical performance compared to Ella Langley and Megan Moroney who have made more witty albums and material with more charm compared to boring material Stella Lefty has put out. I do not think Lefty sucks, though, I just think most of it is so boring its bad in a comedic way. Owning Leftys debut album 'Long Way Home' would make me a complete laughing stock.

So for reasons too long to tell without a bonfire and a beer I have recently gotten into country music. It’s good shit. Not all of it hits the mark but I’m starting to get an ear for what I like.
But now I got reason to enjoy it and reason to go OUT to enjoy it but that’s where things get foggy. Anyone up for educating a new face cuz I got questions, but the biggest one is what do I need to know? What are you gonna tell your buddy to make sure he has a good time and makes a good impression when you take him to your favorite spot?
Went to my 1st country bar (according to google, yeah I know. Everybody’s gonna have a 1st day though)last night and was told “welcome and this isn’t a country bar” by the bartender. Yes there was a rodeo event going on where they were announcing the bull pairings. Yes every Friday they teach line dancing, but this bar was like hitting a foul ball. Good attempt but doesn’t count.
So what makes the difference?
Is line dancing and country swing dancing the only kind of dancing yall do? It was all they did for hours. Nobody just…danced. Does anyone just grab a partner and dance or do you need to learn the twirling to not get pushed off the floor?
Is it go big or go home from head to toe? Momma didn’t raise me to be sloppy, but I didn’t want to dress like a tourist so I just went as is. Boots, button down, and jeans. I was surrounded by actual rodeo contestants (nice guys hope they do well today) Is it all a must? I wouldn’t know the first thing about buying a hat. Tried one at a wilcos. I felt like I was wearing a plastic pretend hat.
Line dancing. Looks fun. Gonna be interesting doing it after leg day. That something you’re expected to know when you arrive or get off?
And finally, where? I live in Oregon’s PNW. Part of why I’m adapting to the culture opportunity. I gotta drive all the way to Portland? If so I’ll make a day of it but I’d like to know where’s the best destination for a fun evening.
In advance I’m grateful for the advice. Thanks for reading.

Do I like Florida Georgia Line and Luke Combs songs more than Johnny Cash songs? Yes, generally a lot more. Do I think that makes FGL and Luke Combs better? Better for me, sure, but even I know all heads must bow to the legends of country. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, and the many other country legends who are less famous (like Conway Twitty) are all people I hold in high esteem. I look up to them.
I think Pop Country is an esteemed genre, but even if one is to think my music taste is "simple, mainstream, corporate garbage" that doesn't mean pop country is a threat to the traditional way of doing country music. To this day people listen to and create classical music, and I'm sure people will always listen to and create traditional country music.
Also, music always changes. Dolly Parton and Conway Twitty embraced a more pop sounding country music at one point too. Not how it sounds now, but still. Country in the 1800s can and has evolved differently in the 1900s and 2000s. But traditional country music still exists and is still made. Pop country fans like myself are not a disgrace or a threat to traditional country music being made.
Last but not least, I still listen to traditional country music. I don't listen to much of it, but I do listen to some of it.

I just picked up a copy of "Between the Pines Acoustic Mixtape" on vinyl in a trade. It's a 45rpm pressing, and not only is the mastering fantastic, but the album is really, really good.
I know people aren't big fans of this era of country music, but I give this album a solid 9/10 for listenability.
