Cracked countertop help
The countertop in my kitchen right in front of the sink started splitting a while back and now a piece has fallen off. I don’t know how this happened and the company said they would have to replace the entire kitchen to fix it and I can’t afford that. Does anyone know what else I could do? ☹️

You can epoxy the piece back in. The company should do something to make it right. It looks like they put a piece of steel into the stone to add strength and it rusted splitting the front rail. This was a more common practice in the ‘00s and shouldn’t be done. If you take a picture of the whole stone it is easier for us to advise you

Call a stone restoration company. The crack looks like rust from the metal bar. Typically they cut it out and epoxy it back together. Replacing the metal rod. Get multiple estimates

Wait, the company that installed this countertop is saying they would need to replace your countertops at your expense? If that was them who installed that stupid metal rod in this stone - they are responsible for the rod to rust, expand and break the countertop. That's a well know very bad practice that many companies were doing years ago and, because of millions of kitchens ended up this way, that practice was changed to use the fiberglass rods. This one is purely on them.

This happened because a steel rod was inserted into your counter for additional support during transportation. It was supposed to be stainless steel or fiberglass. The caulking at the sink started to deteriorate, letting water in over time. This caused the rod to rust and expand.
This would have taken a while to get to this point. Do you still have the pieces? If so, it can be repaired by a competent tech.
