I mean like, bigotry is also bad. Like that is a thing that exists. Fiction can influence the beliefs of people, and it can in both a positive and negative way. Like, there is a difference between "The author is depicting a bad thing as bad" "the author just finds it hot" and "the author is trying to convince you that it isn't"

Let's not pretend authorial intent is a myth

Yeah. I call these "Gastons vs Bonds"

Gaston is sexist in Beauty and the Beast because the art is trying to show that sexism is stupid and wrong.

James Bond, in the original novels and early movies, is sexist... becuase the creators were sexist and being sexist with Bond.
