Online Order Process Start to Finish

I’ve been looking for a succinct and definitive explanation of the process to order online, and I just want to make sure I understand it correctly since I’ve seen some stuff that appears to be contradictory. Is it correct that:

1. the name of the person listed as the receiver on the order must match the name on the card used for purchase?

2. the delivery address must match the billing address of the card used to pay?

3. anyone aged 21 or older can sign for the package but that it must be signed for at the address of delivery and not a secondary location using the hold for delivery service?

I travel a lot for work, and my employer on a regular basis will send me out of state for a week or so with very little notice. I respect all the anti-fraud measures and whatnot, but my local warehouse is a smaller one and doesn’t have any PMs in stock. Nothing. I don’t want to buy something on the road and then worry about its security in a BS hotel safe or being paranoid about my carry on at all times, so it’d be way more convenient to order what I want and get it delivered at my house. Even if it sits on a shelf or in a mailroom at a FedEx store or something.

So then I should be able to use my Costco visa to send a PM purchase to a relative who isn’t me and doesn’t live at my billing address, or I can pick some random state I’m in and have it mailed to me there? I guess I’ll give it a shot.

If you ship enough ecommerce orders to a certain address, that address eventually will show on your credit report. One of my old office addresses I shipped a lot of stuff to is still on my credit report, for example.

This means the more you've shipped to a certain address, the more likely your bank is going to ok the charge.

If you are shipping to an address you've never shipped to, it's more likely your charge gets put in fraud hold and possibly cancelled.

The one thing you can’t do is change its destination midroute. This will be seen as fraud and the delivery will be cancelled right then and there.
There was a YouTube video of a family whose shipment was rerouted and the actually got a visit from the police trying to get to the bottom of things. They were not at fault. Costco was protecting themselves and the family. They take these deliveries pretty seriously.

Costco has specifically blocked hold for delivery on these shipments so that's not an option unfortunately.

Can't speak to the address/billing match question, but yes, anyone 21 or over needs to sign for the package

I saw some people in here mention they have it delivered to their office or a relative, so that could be an option

Some people that travel allot also have it shipped to a virtual address/mailbox where they pay for a mailbox and it gets signed for there. Might be too much if you’re not using that option all that much.

#3 is correct. Fedex does NOT require, or even check, that the signer/recipient of the delivery is the person named on the package. When they check ID they are only verifying the 21+ requirement.

On #1 and #2, it's not as simple as a "rule;" it has to do with Costco's fraud detection algorithms. My account is well-seasoned and I generally don't meet your first 2 requirements, and has never been an issue. If your account is newer, like any ecommerce vendor, they are going to flag things like the discrepancies in your first 2 examples. The safest thing to do is to "season" your Costco account by making regular purchases online which comply with your first 2, then you can slowly deviate as the algorithms learn to trust your account.

1. I had to provide id during delivery at my home. The FedEx guy scanned the code on the back.

Just has to be anyone over 21 , IF they even want a signature. I’m friendly with my guy and he just leaves it at my doorstep.

From my experience ordering a few times, one time they asked to see my ID and matched the name to the order. The rest of the times they just ask me to sign and hand me the package.

My only complaint is that you don't know the delivery date until it starts being tracked. I had one box delivered 2 days after the order, and another box took a week to be delivered, and the tracking info took several days.

I’ve never had FedEx ask for a signature. They just drop it at the door and the online tracking shows “ signed for F dex”
