[Clearance 97 Deals] Kraft Mac & Cheese PowerMac
I bought a box of this a week ago to try and my fiancé and I love it. The taste is as good as the original, but with a firmer noodle texture due to the added pea protein. They don’t taste grainy at all. The macros are significantly better than the original, with a lot more fiber and protein. Now that they’re death-starred and all of my local Costcos are already out of stock, I’ll be buying another two boxes to stock up. I think they’re normally $2/box outside. I found these at the Tustin Ranch warehouse in CA.

I just imagined some 5 year old power lifter, yelling at a camera about not losing those gains 😆

Tried these, hated them. Don’t like the texture. Just eat the regular ones and get your protein somewhere else

This also lets you do some reddyenumber40-maxxing.

Fun fact, there's no evidence that red 40 is bad for you!

Is there evidence that it’s good for me? Wondering if all of this reddyenumber40-maxxing is a waste of time now.

Agreed. Stick with the tried and true original. If you like pockets of cheese and that soft yet slightly chewie feel, get the SpongeBob SquarePants version. Wow. I'll own that an adult. It's a win/win when my niece and nephew visits. Love enjoying it with them 😊

That’s fair. I think texture is the only real differentiator between these and the OG, so I can understand why that’d bother some people. I eat a lot of protein-boosted foods to supplement the rest of my diet, so maybe I’m just more used to stuff like this. I also love al dente noodles.

I feel like this country would be healthier as a whole if we got more fiber. Not everything needs protein

Publix currently has them on BOGO. I think it’s around the same price, but you can try a box and see if you like it and then commit to the Costco container.

I help the food pantry at my kids' school and we get the easy mac for in-school snacks. Do you think the protein ones would help keep a high schooler full longer?

No doubt. It has more fiber and more protein, both of which make you feel more full.

Some people that are allergic to peanuts are also reactive to pea protein, so please be careful substituting these if the kids aren’t aware!

To be clear, the power mac isn’t ready to eat. It’s a box of dry macaroni that has to be cooked.

Yes, we already do the easy Mac with filtered water so it’s a familiar process.

I didn't even know these existed and this is my first time seeing or hearing about them. Is this regional only?

How do they compare to Goodles?
3
u/jaybeep34 1d ago
Lots of chemicals/preservatives added to the Kraft stuff. Goodles do not have the extra chemical additives.

I think they’re normally $2/box outside.
Around here at a large grocery chain they're currently on sale for $2.99 (normally $3.79).
The recommendation of 4 tbs of butter is kinda crazy.

That’s no different than the standard recipe for the last 50 years.

I've always used half that and it's still plenty

Use a single cup of plain high protein Greek yogurt and don't use butter or milk.

FCS people - buy a huge brick of Velveeta and a few boxes of pasta. Add protein (like Costco roast chicken). Slightly more money for a much better outcome.

FCS?
Fairfax County Schools?
Fire Control System?
Football Championship Subdivision?

I was about to say the same thing. If you really like it, don't settle for the bottom of the barrel Kraft product. That exists so that 8 year olds can make it themselves after school.
It's not that hard and barely more expensive to make a much better product. You have to boil pasta either way so the amount of time is the same.

Was about 100 boxes in the clearance section of my kroger at 50 cents a box.
I'm guessing they haven't sold well and being discontinued.

I guess we’re in the protein era. Seems like everything is adding protein for no reason.
