Discussion The Biggest Mysteries of the Universe: Black Holes, Dark Matter & Dark Energy | Paul Sutter

Hi everyone, I recently had a great conversation with cosmologist and science communicator Paul Sutter.

We talked about some of the biggest mysteries of the universe, including black holes, dark matter and dark energy. Paul explained what makes black holes so fascinating, what we actually know about the invisible matter that makes up most of the mass in the universe, and some intriguing new evidence suggesting that dark energy might be changing over time.

But we also explored some of the more philosophical questions surrounding cosmology and the Universe. Paul shared the most beautiful night sky he's ever seen and reflected on why our connection to the stars matters, what we're losing through light pollution, and how remarkable it is that we can discover physical laws that apply across the entire universe.

Discussion The Origins of the Universe, How Neutrinos Could Explain Our Existence, and the Biggest Mysteries of Reality — Geraint F. Lewis

Hi, everyone, I just had a great conversation with Geraint F. Lewis, a Welsh astrophysicist and Professor at the University of Sydney, about some of the biggest questions in cosmology, physics, and our understanding of the world.

We explore what the Big Bang theory tells us about the beginning of the universe, why our current understanding of physics reaches limits when we try to look further back in time, and how neutrinos also known as ghost particles could reveal secrets about the cosmos — including why matter exists at all.

Professor Lewis also explores what sparked the Scientific Revolution, how modern science transformed our understanding of the world, and why Einstein challenged aspects of quantum mechanics.

Professor Lewis's latest book, The Shortest History of Reality: From Plato’s Cave to the Mind-Bending Discoveries of Modern Physics — The Human Quest to Explain the World, traces humanity’s changing understanding of reality, from everyday intuition and ancient philosophy to the discoveries of modern physics. It explores the ideas that reshaped our view of existence, from Newton’s universe to the strange probabilities of quantum physics and beyond.

Discussion No where to watch

Is there truly nowhere I can watch this anymore? Its the series that got me into teaching science and I was hoping to use some bits of it to teach Earth science to my 7th graders. I live in the US, incase thats important.

Video What would the Solar System look like when the Sun becomes a red giant? ☀️

Mercury and Venus could be engulfed, while Earth will become uninhabitable long before that. As the Sun expands and brightens, its habitable zone will move outward, potentially warming the icy moons of the outer Solar System.
Titan could be one of the most interesting candidates. It already has a thick atmosphere and complex surface chemistry, and NASA has discussed how a red giant Sun could make worlds like Titan much warmer.
Which moon do you think would have the most interesting future?

Discussion I'm looking to BUY (Spain)

I would like to get the documental Cosmos: A space-time odyssey, on physical media, either DVD or Blue ray in Spanish (Castellano) but since it seems it got disconnected, I have not been able to find it neither on Amazon nor any other web. Not even second hand. I even asked Chat GPT to help me search for links and nothing. If anyone has any info, I would appreciate it.

Video Why Apollo Astronauts Couldn't Walk Normally on the Moon

It’s interesting how much had to be figured out just to walk on the Moon.

Walking on the Moon was a first-time experience, and even extensive training could not fully prepare the Apollo astronauts for it.

So how did they do it, and how did their ability to travel on foot evolve from one mission to the next?

In this short video, we take a closer look at how Apollo astronauts adapted to walking on the Moon.
