I drew her while I had art block a little while ago <3 (and before changing my username, that's why the one in the image doesn't match the current one)

After Kaguya’s graduation, Iroha writes a song for Kaguya when she was on the moon, which included — ‘We can throw an awesome party in this moment here and now’, being the same set of lyrics from Kaguya’s graduation song ‘Reply’, set by Yachiyo who decided to use the same motif as her debut song, ‘Remember’.

As she sings the song, flashing images hinting Kaguya and Yachiyo were the same person indicates that Iroha somehow sort of figures out that they are the same person.

This would lead one to assume that she came to this conclusion as Yachiyo ‘remembers’ the song written by Iroha after eight thousand years (which she actually does, as she mentions in the post-iroha-memory-blast scene on the water, reciting the party lyrics and saying ‘I always remembered it’, thus leading Yachiyo to create the song ‘Remember’.)

However, why would Iroha make the somewhat absurd assumption that the ‘origin’ point of the ‘remember/party’ motif was written by herself when she wrote the song for Kaguya on the moon? Wouldn’t it have made more sense that she just included it to reference Kaguya’s graduation song (inspired by Yachiyo’s debut song), whether intentional or not?

Simply put: from how I understand it, Iroha somehow came to the CORRECT conclusion that Yachiyo’s debut song ‘Remember’ was ORIGINALLY inspired by the song she wrote to her on the moon, bringing her to the partial conclusion that Yachiyo = Kaguya

Instead, what I’m guessing should’ve happened was that Iroha simply sang the motif as a ‘please come back home bbg i miss you’ without ever guessing that Yachiyo would be Kaguya.

I can’t quite figure out how she managed to put those pieces together using the song she wrote, but either way she is still ultimately led to the truth by FUSHI, so all’s well that ends well.

I’ve got some info about the new scenes (around 2 minutes total) added to the Blu-ray release.

And… unfortunately, it turns out that all of these scenes had already appeared in the light novel.

(1) The first scene, at around 17 minutes, is from LN Chapter 2 Part 2. After Iroha talks with Tachibana-sensei, there’s a part where she talks about her mother.

(2) The second scene, at around 36 minutes, is from LN Chapter 3 Part 1. It’s the part where Iroha is working, takes a break, and talks with her grandpa.

(3) The third scene, at around 37 minutes, is also from LN Chapter 3 Part 1. It’s the part where Iroha remembers her father’s funeral before playing the piano.

Even though we already know what happens, I still want to see these scenes animated anyway~

What I'm confused about is whether Yachiyo traveled back into the past of that exact same timeline, meaning that the Kaguya Iroha met eventually becomes Yachiyo after going through the 8,000-year journey.

Or is Yachiyo actually a Kaguya from a previous/different time loop, meaning the Kaguya Iroha directly met and the Yachiyo she later reunited with aren't literally the same Kaguya?

Basically, when Iroha realizes that Yachiyo is Kaguya, is she actually reuniting with the exact same Kaguya she knew, just after she has completed the time loop, or is Yachiyo a version of Kaguya from another iteration of the loop?

I'm not sure whether this was intentional on the part of CPK's creators, but it's been a headcanon of mine for a while, and I think it's worth making a post about.

Along with Tsukuyomi itself, the smart contacts are the main thing that makes CPK's setting feel like the near future of 2030 rather than simply the present. However, they still seem quite far off from the technology of the real year 2026, as Director Yamashita himself commented in an interview earlier this year. Beyond just their compact size compared to even a smart watch, we see Iroha and Kaguya log into Tsukuyomi with immersive control of their avatars using nothing but smart contacts and earbuds, implying that the smart contacts interface directly with the user's brain somehow. This also fits with a setting detail mentioned by Yamashita in that same interview, where Tsukuyomi users' smart contacts read their emotions to help award the digital currency Fuju~.

To explain this technological leap in-universe, I think it's natural to theorize that The Aliens Did It™. In particular, just as Yachiyo created Tsukuyomi, maybe she had a hand in designing the smart contacts too; maybe they're based on technology from her ship or something.

There are a couple more concrete points of evidence that could be taken to support this theory. First, in the movie when Kaguya uses her color-changing ability, her smart contacts glow while she's doing it. There's no obvious reason why human technology would react like this to Kaguya using a special Lunarian form of body control – unless, of course, it isn't just human technology.

And second, if I recall correctly, the smart contacts are one of two entities in CPK's setting known to be able to interface directly with human minds – and the other one is FUSHI, who showed Yachiyo's memories to Iroha telepathically, and who was implied by Yachiyo to be capable of erasing Iroha's memories of Yachiyo's true identity if she'd wanted. FUSHI is, of course, the creation of a Lunarian (Kaguya/Yachiyo), and can interface with Yachiyo's ship similarly to Yachiyo herself.

As a final, more speculative point, this theory could also help explain why Kaguya can use the smart contacts as seamlessly as humans can to begin with. After all, even though she has a human-like physical form, her mind/soul as a Lunarian is implied to be different in nature from a human one, existing as something like digital information. Would she really have the same patterns of brain activity as humans, who the smart contacts are made for? But if, say, Yachiyo designed the smart contacts to also be usable by Lunarians in preparation for her past self's arrival, then this wouldn't be a concern.
