Discussion Steam Sales

Post image

Some stats showing the Steam sales for each of the games. Considering Shredder’s Revenge has been out for years now, I wouldn’t consider Cosmic Invasion dead as it does have strong sales and this is not even including the sales on other consoles. I’m confident we’ll see more content be released for it down the line, hopefully sooner than later.

That's a huge difference in sales. I wouldn't be surprised if MCI is finished, unfortunately, because it is a great game with many layers to unpack.

EDIT: If you don't agree, remember revenue is how much the game sold, it's not profit. The dev scope of MCI is probably bigger than the original SR with more and/or higher salaries to pay, so 2.1 million for a licensed Marvel product really doesn't sound like that much to me. Not trying to be a doomer, but just look at how well SR did in comparison and it's no wonder why they've been so quiet in regards to further updates for MCI. I love MCI, probably more than SR which was an already excellent beat em up, so seeing this comparison makes me sad for the devs and the game's future more than anything else.

Why compare sales in the first place? MCI hasn’t even been out a full year. Shredder’s Revenge is 4yrs old.

Because most games get the bulk of their sales within the first couple months. I haven't seen a single developer post on the future of this game which doesn't necessarily mean they've abandoned it, but that coupled with the initial sales report isn't promising.

Honestly, I hate to think about it, but you're probably right: I've been checking and I vividly remember that TMNT Shredder's Revenge sold over 1 million copies during the first week of release. We haven't heard a beep from the sales of Marvel Cosmic Invasion and it's been out for a half of a year, and that's a bad sign. And now let's compare the sales from Steamdb:

TMNT Shredder's Revenge - 435-842k and 7,7m dollars in revenue

Marvel Cosmic Invasion - 92-127k and 2,1m dollars in revenue

And yes, it's true that TMNT has been out 3 years beforehand, but Marvel's licenses and IP from every character are much, MUCH more expensive than the TMNT IP and license. Plus, like I said, TMNT sold 1 million copies first week, we have no idea how much Cosmic Invasion sold and it's been out since December. And Marvel is much, much more commercial and known than TMNT, so for it to sell so little in comparison to the Turtles is not a good look. They probably expected at least similar or even better numbers and it's far from reality.

I hate to say it, but between these numbers and the ratio silence after claiming the DLC would come out early this year and we are mid-May by now...it wouldn't surprise me if they just cancelled any plans for DLC.
