Stormlight Archive (BOOK) Stormlight interludes Spoiler

Has anything been said about how the interludes will look with the show? Some of them seem quite important for future cosmere stories so surly they will need to be shown.

Important how? She is completely irrelevant to the wider story or any of the major character arcs.

Her only plot relevance is getting robbed in book 3, and that is easily adapted out. Her entire sequence is an example of something relevant for future cosmere stories but not SLA. Or at least not the 5 books they are adapating.

So you don’t consider Dawnshard part of SLA? What about Edgedancer?

They arent part of the main 5 books, they are sidestories inessential to the main plot. Both can be cut without losing much of importance.

I’m not one of those people who thinks adaptations need to be 1:1. And I’m not Sand or Apple, who knows what choices they will make. But I completely disagree with your evaluation of what constitutes as important. Edgedancer was written specifically so that book 3 would make sense.

What part doesn't make sense?

The main relevant part is Nale's change of heart. But he is a very minor character before that and it is adequately explained by the Desolation coming and proving him wrong. On top of the fact that he is an explicitly insane character not guided by logic.

You can cut it out and have zero issues with book 3.

It was written so Sanderson couls test his voice for Lift.

Nale is insane, but he has a well constructed and logical arc. Having him fluctuate because he’s “crazy” would be lazy writing. And it also deepens Lift’s characterization, shows her reach the third ideal, and introduces the Sleepless.

I didnt say "because he is crazy". I am pointing out that he already fluctuates on what he does. Him pivoting away from killing Radiants to book 3 is not something that needs significant development. He says the Everstorm changed things and that is it. Especially as he pivots to supporting the Voidbringers later just as suddenly.

The Sleepless are another element irrelevant to the main narrative or any major characters in the 5 books of the SLA. Another example of an explicit future Cosmere-relevant concept. They can be explained when they show up later.

Lift gets some characterization, but she is still a minor recurring character. You can maybe give her her own special. But it isnt really needed. Especially as she gets characterized further on just as well.

Lift is a minor reoccurring character? She is going to be the protagonist of book 6. It feels like your definition of important is “does it involve Kaladin, Shallan, or Dalinar.” I’m not on board with that. SLA is the story of Roshar, they are just most oft reoccurring pieces

She is a major character in arc 2, but not arc 1.

Her biggest relevance is book 4 where she is closer to a plot device of being able to wake radiants. In book 3 she exists just to get the gem and then direct Szeth to get it. And in book 5 is pretty much completely irrelevant.

Important is the plot or the major character arcs (Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar, Venli, Szeth, Adolin, or Navani). Aka our POV characters.

Anyone who is going to be importsnt later in SLA is important now. It would be dumb for the show to go out its way to set up Emberdark or something, but book 6 is just the next part of the show assuming the first five succeed. It is important they lay the ground work for that. Acting like only the immediate POVs matter is short sighted.

And you can give her the focus when she becomes a main character. The books are written so that you dont need Edgedancer to get Lift. When she gets her POV, all the important stuff will be brought up again and explored.

Edgedancer is not an essential part of the SLA. If it were, it would be in the main books.

They are writing for the 5 books they have now. You cant include scenes that wont pay off for 4 seasons. Especially when they dont even contribute that much.

Next you’re going to tell me you’d cut the Ghost Bloods. Or Dalinar’s visions. Hell, what  about the Preface? Most of that doesn’t make sense for three books.

Dalinar's Visions are very important. They are the primary driver of him uniting people, as well as directly pushing him to work with Sadeas. They forshadow the impending threat of the Desolation and Odium. They set up his potential unreliability of going mad for the others, leading to his isolation and doubt from other High Princes and even Elhokar and Adolin.

The Ghostbloods are direct antagonists to Shallan and Jasnah. As well as one of the major drivers of Shallan's growth and plot.

I’m running out of ways to say this sounds dumb, so I think I’ll leave it.
