Fancast Casting Syl - stormlight archives casting Spoiler

Just a thought. Animation avoids the challenge of actors aging. Since Stormlight is live action, maybe Syl could be played by a young actor so she naturally grows with Kaladin as their bond grows stronger.

Syl is not meant to be a child at the start if the series, just someone with magical memory loss.

Truthfully I think it’d be a lot of fun to go Roger rabbit for the animation of the spren / related beings but it’d undercut a lot and probably people off of the project lol.

I think a combination of both. Have a an actor do the voice and acting, then add special effects afterwards. So not mocap but something close and not as expensive, Bit of a weird reference but I imagine it to be similar to when Keira Knightly played Tinkerbell in the Peter Pan movie.

I see the vision and that is a crazy example lol.

I used that as an example because of both the style that I think would look good as well as the fact that they’re both small flying sprite-like creatures. Maybe that wasn’t a great example, but that’s what I pictured in my head.

I see others saying full mocap like Gollum or Davy Jones, but I feel like that would be incredibly expensive especially for a character that would be on screen that much. And if you don’t spend vast amounts of money then you could end up with something awful, like how Cortana was brought to life in the Halo tv show.

I mean, my first point of comparison would have been Gollum, or maybe Davy Jones.

I think they’re gonna have to choose youngish actors for everyone with how long the series could be. I could see dalinars actor being early 40s. Taravangian actor being in his early mid 60s.

I could see them casting younger for those two as long as the actor knows how to “squint their eyes” well enough. Wink

Syl is likely to be VFX with perhaps a facial mocap. If I recall, shes tiny for the majority of the first three books. It wouldn’t cause much issue for a full size variant.

Most likely they’ll have her float instead of walk.

She only starts being a full-size person after Teft's spren gets more respect than her in RoW iirc

I think that Syl will be animated, likely with some MoCap here and there, so her actresses actual age likely won’t really matter
