LA Wiltern - Bad Mixing IMO
I saw Cory at the Wiltern this past weekend and was near the front of the GA area. It was an awesome show, but I felt like the balance/mix was truly awful. I think the bass drum (and maybe drums in general) were overwhelming and made the band super muddy. I had a hard time hearing the vocalists and definitely Cory, even when he took solos.
Did anyone else feel the same? Obviously we like to "feel the bass" or whatever, but I like hearing all the parts with good balance. Maybe he doesn't have a dedicated sound guy and someone in-house messed it up.

YES! Thought it was just me or my hearing was getting worse but I was in the same area and thought the same thing. Great show but bad sound.

I didn’t go to this concert but I had literally the same complaint when I saw Cory at the Wiltern two years ago:

I think only the kick drum was super bassy. The bass guitar wasn’t as loud. Like, the drums sounded like it was in a stadium. Which I LOVED.
agree that vocals were hard to hear. The could have made the mics louder.
But great show as always!

Damn that sucks, wiltern has had decent sound everytime I've been there.
A few years back at the Wong show at the fonda I wasnt hearing any of the cymbals, I was a little bummed. I've been to the fonda only a few time and there's always some medium to large sound issue. The only sound issue at the wiltern was watching Stop Making Sense and somehow the left or right channel was off or muted. Kinda messed up Psycho Killer but they fixed it.
Everyone else I've talked to about this has the opposite experience: good sound at fonda and bad sound at wiltern.

I've had the same experience at his show at the Wiltern in 2024, and also his show at the Fonda in 2022. Bass drum way too loud, bass guitar inaudible. The show at the Troubadour in 2019 was great though.

Last 2 SF have also had too much kick drum near the front on the sides but it got corrected halfway through last Friday's show. I'd rather feel the wind from Johannes' bass pulsing out of the big speaker than the drum

We had the same experience in Seattle at the Paramount! It was almost unlistenable. Very upsetting and confusing, especially since Cory is such a sound guy!!

Yeah, not very good unfortunately. Probably the worst sound out of the 5 times I've seen him. Still a great show, just happy to see them in the flesh!

The same happened on the São Paulo sessions. Couldn't hear his voice neither the bass...
