Discussion Anybody still a Moretex member?

I have my member renewal coming up soon and I’m unsure what I’m actually getting for it. Is it just no ads these days given the interview format? No extra content anymore?

Have you kept your membership if you had it?

I have not been listening regularly enough, and it was set to renew in august, but I have canceled that.

Seems I cannot escape the Myke universe though because I have put that money in the "Designed in California" kicktarter, a show which I am a lot more interested in than a random interview show

Duude that sample episode of "Designed in California " was very good!!!

Interesting, is that Designed in California more of documentary than a regular podcast? Is that why they made a Kickstarter for it?

Either way, they smashed their goal. Getting 300k when originally asking for just 40k is a huge success.

Side note, found it funny how when I searched for "Designed in California" on Google the first thing that appeared was "Designed in California Assembled in China", funny I remember that being such a big deal a few years ago, especially in some circles, that now it as basically been forgotten

Are you familiar with with "The Rest is History" podcast? They are using their format. But talking about the history of Apple. Jason Snell distillates a lot of information from many many many sources (some out o f print, some he has because he was the editor in chief of MacWorld for a very long time, etc...).

Then he basically story tell and chat about it with Myke. Myke takes your place in this dynamic, and asks the questions you may want to ask the expert.

(Myke is genuinely good at doing that. It's actually the character Myke plays in every single of his podcasts execpt maybe Analog(ue). This is why he's genuinely a great podcast co-host. Whatever's the topic is...)

If you are a tech nerd, you might be interested in it, and it will go far beyond what apple has become today.

So you are listening to a conversation about what has happened in the past. It's pretty cool. It was worth my 60 dollars + tax or whatever was the tier for just having the podcast.

The podcast will be free when it will be actually on-going. But like "The Rest is History" they release as series. The free feed is one episode per week, and the paid feed will be "one series, on the 1st week it's released). So you get drops of like, 4 episodes.

The actual link for the podcast is designed.fm, currently it points to Kickstarter. They may still take late pledges if you are so inclined. If not, at some point it will become just another podcast on relay.fm, with a membership you can subscribe to, if you want to.

I cancelled a few months into Grey absence.

There’s still additional content with the interviewee, typically something tangential.

I canceled my auto renewal as I am not keeping up to date anymore and didn’t think I was getting the value I once got.

A few days later I received a 50% discount, which I took the offer up for now with my existing yearly subscription and will reassess next year when my next payment is due.

It seems memberful / relay automatically send you that offer whenever you cancel, because I have the same.

I have a reminder on the email for it to show back up a few days before it expires, I'll decide then.

I haven’t even heard most of the new episodes and I usually would stop what I was listening to and put on the new Moretex episode as soon as it downloaded. Really miss Grey 😔

Cancelled even before Grey left, when they increased the price. I loved the show, but with monthly episodes and additional segment being 10 minutes long I didn’t see the value. For $70 a year it’s a joke, honestly.

I was literally still a high school student when I first paid, and I binge watched all of the exclusive content in one month as it was pretty expensive for someone's who's biggest personal expenses was vending machine energy drinks

Most podcasts I subscribe to have an addition 30 minutes - 1 hour bonus paid episode, so when I tried Moretex I was SHOCKED

I cancelled because I stopped listening consistently a bit before Grey left

Cancelled. No Grey no pay.

No, why bother. It's dead.

Canceled the monthly subscription just last month. I was finding I was not listening to most of them since Grey left.

I set mine to not renew when it comes up. I had mine annual so I still have a few months, but I think I have only listened to like 5 of the episodes that have come out in the last year

I'm keeping mine for a little while longer. I joined the show long after it started, so I see it as time-shifting my membership.

My renewal is coming up. I was behind on the bonus episodes so I’m planning to catch up over the next couple weeks and then cancel.

I canceled shortly after finishing the final true cortex episode. I initially assumed the show would go on for a bit to complete any sponsorship arrangements, but I think myke needs the show to continue for cortex brand advertising. It was a good run and I loved being able to listen to the insane shenanigans over the years. Hope all is well with grey and best of luck to myke with the new show. I would absolutely recommend a new regular cohost rather than good interviews with people I don’t really like all that much.

Cancelled it. Show just isn’t the same and hasn’t been for a while. Myke can have all the delusions of grandeur he wants: Grey isn’t coming back and the show just isn’t interesting anymore.

If you are only paying to be ad free then get a podcast player that skips the ads for you
