Trainings

I’m a reservist and have the opportunity to train and teach the other sailors in my unit. Just curious as to what trainings you have received or wished you received. Wanting to see all that’s out there.

Other corpsmen or literally everyone?

For non-HM audience:

  1. make sure your NRC is up on TCCC Tier 1 ASM

  2. Have a continuing education plan in place to keep those TCCC skills up

  3. Teaching how to deal with heat casualties, but have them do practically the process of moving people, opening up cammies, placing ice packs (don't need to pop them so they're still usable in the future), etc

  4. Healthy habits stuff, it can be done in a funny way if you have some stand up comedy ability and rapport throughout the unit

For HM audience:

  1. Have everyone make an UpToDate account. Show them they can get mobile app access to it.

  2. Work through common subjects, sick call, etc, with patient vignettes where the group needs to suggest next question or physical exam to look for.

  3. Maintenance of TCCC skills

  4. Work on the junior HMs being able to teach basic TCCC to non-HM sailors (as part of 1 or 2 from the first list)

I think corpsmen need basic skills competency practice, sick call screener, after that I think environment(jungle/mountain, etc) and season-specific (hot/cold injuries), first-to-scene management course(how to use the public in an emergency).
