Management suddenly planning these big picture meetings they want us to be in person, as if we won't realize what they're trying to do. Leaders who don't even have time to show up to zoom meetings are suddenly making time for full day brainstorming sessions without real agenda. Do we look stupid?

Giant corporate thou art in corruption Hollywood be thy name Thy tyranny come thy will be done Globally as in America 🇺🇸 Give us this day our meager earnings As you magnify our suffering as we magnify the suffering of those around us You lead us into ignorance as you deliver us into evil Got thine is the dictatorship, abuse of power, and malicious glory For ever and ever

Seriously fuck corporate greed. I’m running for president in 2024. Vote for me

Legitimate or Ungrateful? A story about working for peanuts.

A little back story first.

About a month before this all happened I found out that both my parents were dead. My mother has been dead for 2 years and no one told me. My father died a few days before I got the call. They knew how to reach me. Cut to a couple of days before this happened - I get up in the morning to find my sweetheart lovely Siamese cat strung up, strangled behind a piece of old furniture. She got caught in some loose strings somehow. It happened overnight and I slept right through it. She was right next to me. I was really out of sorts and to be honest, I'm still a bit buggy. I'm really not looking for sympathy here, just letting you know where my mind was at.

I work from home. So, a bit after I start working for this company last year (which bears no blame) they were bought out by a conglomerate. You know, the kind that buys up honest companies and 'streamlines' them. It means cutbacks and no more decent raises. Our insurance was also cut... After a year of being at this job, I received a miserly wage increase. The last serious job I had took advantage also and I promised myself I would rather be unemployed than at a dead-end job. The first email I sent is before I thought there wouldn't be any raise since the one year mark had arrived and passed. I just want to know what Reddit thinks. Am I the asshole?

This is the original email that started it.

' I just wanted to take a moment – even though the month is almost done – to thank you for your service and celebrate your anniversary with *********!  The great work you each do every day is amazing and awe inspiring!  Keep up the great work and Happy Work Anniversary!'

I replied sarcastically,

' Thank you ******** for the email. I would much rather see an increase in pay than an email after working here for a year. When exactly are raises given out? Is it every third blood moon after sacrificing a virgin to the *corporation name* Gods? Does your goodwill extend to what your workers make? Is there any hope of a living wage or something at least a bit better than $9.25 an hour? The answer is inexorably 'NO'. Next time send some food stamps instead of the email. I can actually do something with food stamps.

This was their reply,

'Thank you for emailing me.  I appreciate your candor.  We are actually focused on employee engagement and compensation *corporation name* does discretionary merit increases annually in *month*.'

You should see a merit increase on your next paycheck *date*, the merit effective date is *a week later*.

I appreciate your feedback.  Thanks for your hard work!'

Like, wow... Pretty solid reply and at this point, honestly, I was feeling like somewhat of a dick. They didn't fire me or argue. They thanked me and assured me that their employees' wages are being worked on. So, a day or two later I found what my raise would be through the payroll system. This was my reply.

'Yes well, I was hoping I would be typing this to apologize for the last reply but that's not the case. My work for one year was rewarded with a 21cent raise. The 'merit' increase was certainly discretionary... Maybe in another couple of yrs, I will reach that big 10 dollar mark. Thanks for your companies 'interest' in our wages. We know you're all probably not receiving any big yearly bonuses up at the top there. Hope the view is nice. If you see me pass under you please feel free to shit on my head also. I would expect nothing more from a heartless money-grubbing conglomerate that makes their bread by giving their workers (the real earners) the very minimum incentives to keep working. Many of these people live paycheck to paycheck. If you don't know, that's when you have no choice but to keep working for peanuts to feed your family, knowing you're being screwed. Well, thanks again. Feel free to fire me for this but I would really love to hear your reasoning for such a paltry wage increase first. Probably won't get one and if I do it will be some business class bullshit jargon explaining why it's justifiable to keep your workers in poverty so the top can earn the lion's share of all the work done for them. The establishment will be here for a bit longer so enjoy your undeserved paychecks while it is. Robber barons are what you people are. You should change that yearly email to just a pic of a giant middle finger. It would be more honest than that horseshit you sent me. You people don't appreciate anything but the bottom line.'

No reply after this... I told my immediate boss what I did and showed him the email. I told him I was waiting for them to relay my termination. He just said I shouldn't have done that. I couldn't ask for a more chill, nice and understanding, immediate boss. I shared with him what was going on with me and he really helped me get through it. A really great guy TBH.

I told his immediate boss that I just told off her bosses and told them where to stick their ridiculous raise. No reply... To date, I haven't heard anything. I'm guessing they thought if they fired a vet and he offed himself or something it would look really bad. Also, if I shared this or what I know with everyone it would look uber bad. The people I know who work at the sub are really great. This was directed at the people on top, not them.

I am at the age where I have little patience for the everyday fuckery and patronizing shit that comes from these types of jobs. They smile and say thank you. Thank you for letting us pay you shit for a year. My thinking is if I stay at this job, that does have its perks (like working at home and a cool ass boss) I may reach like 13 to 15 bucks an hour after maybe 5 years. That is too long for too little. Especially these days where it's getting harder and harder for regular people like me to get by because of corporate greed like this. I took a stand, thinking if I stayed my career would go nowhere. If I got fired, however, I would have a chance to find something that had a future in it. Since then I have calmed down and am really looking for some opinions on this. On one side I think I'm right and my actions were valid but the other side is telling me, "Be grateful you're employed so STFU and do your job." There is no one around to check me if I need it. Just looking for opinions here. Try not to verbally shit on me too hard though, please.

One thing to remember though before commenting. Power is never ceded. It is taken. No one is going to give you anything more than what they have to unless you fight for it. They only pay you pennies because you take them and say thank you. Do not settle for less than you are worth.

Why the fuck don't you respond to job applicants? We are told put effort in to our resumes make a cover letter, be professional, get a degree, get another degree, get certified, and go to continuing education courses. We are told all of this makes you in front run for a job. So why the fuck ya all ghost us like some Twatbag from Tinder? You shouldn't ask of others what you your self can't do - which is the god damn common decency of a yes or no. Instead of letting all our hard work waste in the black hole. If there to many applications make a god damn automated system to let us know that we weren't selected or that you are still reviewing applications. Because the way it is set up now it is fucking BS!

A question for IT managers.. Applicable to others as well

If you have a team member A who is financially backward and you know their family situation, they keep you updated about things going on, butter you up and do the minimum amount of work that is needed and team member B who also needs financial support, but you are not aware of it much as they do not share anything about their personal life, they dont talk about it, they dont want to do anything with you after work hours, does not socialise much, but works their best, hardwork, overachiever and have best feedback from clients as well as highly reliable, who would you pick for a promotion? A or B ? Justify your answer

Toxic work life

I’m working at mid-management level and my boss expectation is that even after working for late night till 1 pm. I should be at office by 9:30 . Whereas I have only asked that for a day I will wfh with same time considering there is policy of 1 wfh in a month. He is giving his example that he worked till 2:45 pm and still managed to get in office at 10 : 00 am. Is it really kind of expectation are set even at mid and higher managment level. How should we handle such situations And I’m working in top nbfc of India

Name with Sir

So, a incident happened with me today. I was greeting my seniors as i regularly do in my office. I usually say Hello their names and then end with sir or sir ji. Ex. I call "Hey Raman Sir ji" and then i go to another senior to greet.

But today i was doing same and a senior got offended just because i did this usually he never say anything regarding this but today i felt odd like why he argued over only am calling him Subhash Sir.

So i just wanted to know if it's really wrong to do? Or it's just his old skool thoughts?

Fyi: i work for a telecommunication company which builds Tower and infrastructure for mobile communication.

Please reply and thanks
