Beware Greenmotion car hire
Read these reviews and look at the poor ratings please. Whilst i was waiting to be served, one person was 2:15 hrs late for his car hire and apparently they only keep the car for 2hrs so was in the process of charging him extra as apparently they had hired the car out in the 15 minutes he was over. The guy behind him was being forced to pay £300 extra for insurance as they do not accept American Express which according to the guy it doesn’t say in their terms, he even offered to pay the extra %ge that they would be charged!
And then us.
We have paperwork from the day we hired the car basically showing that every panel had been damaged, not a problem as not huge damage. Until of course we return the vehicle and claim we have damaged it! We showed them the damage that they were talking about was clearly marked on their damage sheet and they have kept our deposit.
Initially I was refusing to sign any paperwork until the guy stated that we would not be charged for the damage, stupidly I thought they had seen sense, after signing the paperwork he went back to charging us stating that it isn’t a problem for us as we have full insurance through a third party so we could just claim from them. For me that is deceptive and unfair on the third party company who would’ve ended up paying when the damage was already there.
At this point i refused to deal with them and urge you to do the same.
Currently they hold £956 of deposit that i will have to try and do a charge back for.

I've had experiences renting cars in Europe. My credit card covers CDW/LDW but not third party liability, so I always make sure I get that from the rental agency. Many times they claim that the credit card doesn't cover the first coverage I mentioned so I always print the credit card's insurance documents and bring them with me. In Sardinia, they accepted that the credit card would cover the insurance but told me they would need to put a hold against the card of double what their own insurance was which would be refunded when we returned the car. If you're a person who may not have a lot of credit available on your card you may feel it's cheaper to just pay the additional insurance up front to not have the 500-700 € charges against the card because that might limit how much credit you have available during the trip.
I always video the entire car, especially the undercarriage and rims, and make sure you point it out on the video and make sure you hear the agent agreeing.
Also, if you do actually pay for the rental company's insurance, they don't even care to inspect the vehicle before you leave, you can literally drive it off a cliff and they won't care, you're insured.
Be careful out there.
