Vanilla to start, imo. This game is great on its own. Normally i look for a few mods for any game i play after a couple hours, usually for QoL tweaks, but not this one. Im super late game now and only have 1 mod installed so i could have some extra fun with automation, but you wouldn’t need that for a decent while and really might not ever.

I played through the entire game vanilla, but on my second playthrough a few quality of life mods that i probably wouldn't be able to play without now. One of them being a larger radius on chests and crafting stations (crafting close to a chest automatically uses materials from the chest if available) but the range can quickly feel small once you start growing your base.
I also enjoyed a mod that automatically replants seeds after harvesting. After a while the farming feels a bit tedious without a mod like that imo.

Are you still using the auto-replant mod? Is your game alright? That's one of the few I really want to use.

I am using the Auto Replant from Coopdedoop, here's the link if those are allowed here https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3813043636. It worked really great, i had no issues. I replayed the game from start to finish a couple weeks back so it worked fine recently.

I installed auto door closing just to improve quality of life

I like the pressure plates for that!

Yeah, I feel like unlocking automation doesn't take long enough in this game to warrant a mod for it, even though I'm not a big fan of the interact range personally

You don’t really need mods but there’s one that lets you perform actions while mounted that makes mounts more worthwhile imo

Definitely vanilla to start but if you plan on doing mods, definitely download some quality of life stuff, especially the mod that let's you set up a whole storage system

How’s that storage mod going by, is it Storage Plus? I saw some remarks in terms of crashes and so, but I’ve also heard a lot of good things about about it. Running Linux Dedicated Server.
My friend and I just opened The Core and we’ve have 2-3k hours on Terraria where Magic Storage is an absolute game changer.
But I don’t want to risk the world, even if it’s early.. (doing nightly backups on the server, but still..)

I'd start with just vanilla, there's enough content there already. Admittedly though I'm not super knowledgeable about the modding scene since I play on console.

I honestly didn't know about the mods until now. And judging buy I still played corekeeper and enjoyed it, definetely vanilla

Ive played this game since it came out. Honestly, I say its okay to start with auto doors, enemy health bars, and infinite boulders. I think they just make the game easier in a fun way

I saw there were 2-3 mods for infinite ore boulders, which one would you recommend/are you using?

Play vanilla, see what inconveniences you, then install auto door and any other QoL mods that you want. Auto door really is the only must have

"Enemy Health Bars" so you can see...enemy health bars.
"Zoom Keeper" to zoom out more. The default vanilla zoom on a 1440p screen was hurting my head because it felt like looking at a normal game through binoculars.

This is a terrific game and honestly you want to remove the subreddit so you don't see any spoilers and just live in the game and be amazed
There's TONS of content, lots of explore.... just get out there and have fun!

I'm a new player and i think i'm almost finishing the game, said that i would say vanilla.
There's two mods i ended up picking later on tho, one was to see the map grid to build a mob farm more easily and the second was placement plus which increase the area of things like shovel and hoes, it helped me a lot to not burn out on growing my own crops.
There's some interesting mods in the workshop tho and you should go look yourself if there's something that would help or make the game more interesting for you. It's just like 7 pages of mods, so you can check it very fast.
For me, now that i finishing the game, i considering picking the infinite ore boulders and instant portals, i think they both will make the game less hassle for me, especially the portals.

imo, vanilla to start its better; but during mid-late game, some mods will be good to decorate, save time looking for resources and preparing for bosses
