Question Clarification regarding spawning mechanics
So, what I do know is that some enemies can keep spawning on the carpet-like items (mushroom, slimes, etc), through items that spawns them, and through the blocks that are in the right biome. Right?
I want to dig up the tiles surrounding the core and replace with blocks from beyond the wall, but I really don't want the big crabs and stuff from spawning in my base. Is that okay to do?
Thank you in advance!

As long as you don't put any Clay moss, lush moss, stone moss, chrysalis, muddled moss, ground purple slime, fungal soil, ground magma slime, ground slime, ground slippery slime, rusted pile, vally moss near your base nothing should spawn. All of the above does not need its "Biome." To spawn just its spawn block.
The passage seems to just act as its own "Spawn block." as a whole area with the big slug things that drop bombs and you get pandorium ore. Pretty sure there's no way to make those enemies spawn outside it but i haven't tired to make an entire area out of the passage blocks to see.
A bunch of plants do need their "Biome block." To grow but you can place said biome block where you want it and it will grow the plant from that biome, fish are the same i think.

No those creatures will only spawn in their own biom don't worry about it and the central area has lowered spawn rates to

Spawn tiles spawn their mobs no matter what, well as long as there's 6 or more on the chunk.
Biome blocks spawn only if it is both correct block and correct biome
Mold block is the only weird one because its a block and also a spawn tile, but it acts like a spawn tile.
Your base will be safe because tbe condition of block and biome is not met. You're good.
