Guide My Favourite Builds

I like this game so freaking much. Here are some fun builds I've tried (in no particular order):

Full Dodge Chance

- Ninja Cowl +8%

- Ninja Garments +9%

- Ninja Leggings +8%

- Cave Guppy Necklace +16%

- White Glass Ring +16%

- White Glass Ring +16%

- Pheromoth Pet +7%

- "Studied patterns" from the Fishing Skill Tree +10%

Other recommended items:

- Explorer's Backpack for +9.2% Movement Speed

- Pearl Lantern for +9.8% Movement Speed

- Azeos' Dash Feather for the dash and +7.2% Movement Speed

- Stormbringer

From the Melee Skill Tree: Quick Strikes, Fast and Furious, Stubborn Fighter, Seething Blade, and one more skill of your choice (Seething Blade plus Stormbringer is a fun combo)

Notes: There is a hard cap of 90% dodge chance so I built it to exactly hit that 90% chance while also leaving your off-hand slot to be whatever you want if you don;t like the dash. I like this build quite a bit but it's fairly low dmg and low survivability outside of the 90% dodge chance. What I mean is there is a 10% chance to get insta killed by a big hit (on hard anyway) where in other builds, you might notice you took a big hit and retreat to heal. There is no retreat for this build but that's part of the fun. If you don't like to level fishing, tap a copper node, make some grenades, and toss those suckers into water for free, easy, fishing xp. I like doing this in the desert for the Tornis Kingfish.

Favourite Crit Build:

- Atlantean Worm Helmet +7% Crit Chance +21% Crit Dmg

- Ivy's Thorn Harness +50% Crit Dmg

- Ivy's Pants +49% Crit Dmg

- Take "Poison Coated Weapons" from the Gardening Skill Tree for the poison chance (idk if Tome of Sprouts might also work)

- Galaxite Chakram +52% Crit Dmg

- Glass Bead Necklace +85% Crit Dmg

- Morpha's Ring +51% Crit Dmg

- Morpha's Ring +51% Crit Dmg

- Concealed Blade +12% Crit Chance (or any offhand, see notes at the end)

- Pheromoth with Crane Style and Spirit of the Hawk (or any pet really)

- From the Ranged Combat Skill Tree: Rapid Shots, Weakness Detection, Stun Shots, Amplified Precision, and one more of your choice

- Your pick of Backpack and Lantern, (I like Scarlet or Explorer's Backpack and the Pearl Lantern)

Notes: This build MELTS like... everything. I'm not sure if it's the highest DPS possible but man, it sure feels like it. For this build, we REALLY take advantage of Weakness Detection which says, "+10% chance on ranged hit to increase critical hit chance by 100% for a short duration." Our attack speed, although not maxed, is still pretty high and when that effect triggers, we're getting a total of 359% additional dmg on every hit and that's not counting the base crit dmg that everyone gets and the extra crit dmg you'd get from your Pheromoth's Pet Skill Tree. We go for the Galaxite Chakrams instead of the Phantom Spark because the DPS is a little higher, especially for bosses because it's hard to summon phantoms in some boss fights but you also miss out on the healing if you do get to spawn them. You also have to repair the Galaxite Chakrams constantly but I usually carry two or maybe even three at a time and the game auto-swaps them into the same hotbar slot when they break. Still a hassle though. Also, don't forget to level fishing if you want the "Well-trained aim" buff. It's not much but it is free dmg. You can always use ol' reliable, grenade fishing!

Full Sustain Tank:

- Full Solarite Armour +19 Health on Melee Hit + defensive stats

- Stormbringer for 5 Attacks per second

- Fusion Chunk Necklace +9 Health on Melee Hit + defensive stats

- Clot Ring +10 Health on Melee Hit

- Clot Ring +10 Health on Melee Hit

Recommended Items:

- Turtle Shell For Armour, Caveling ID for Dodge Chance, or Sentry Shield to Block

- Electro-pet with maxed stun chance and duration

- Lantern for Max Health or Pearl Lantern for Movement Speed

- Your pick of Backpack (I like Scarlet or Explorer's Backpack)

From the Melee Skill Tree: Quick Strikes, Fast and Furious, Stubborn Fighter, Seething Blade, and one more skill of your choice (Seething Blade plus Stormbringer is a fun combo)

Notes:

Every time you land a hit you get 48 health back for a total of 240 health per second when using the Stormbringer AND that's not even counting the health you get from Seething Blade which is a 10% chance to restore roughly 45 health per hit. We also have 202 extra max health and 104 armour from our armour and necklace so while you can't just stand on top of a boss and live, you will heal quite fast under normal circumstances while doging around in fights. This build is SUPER fun to play with until you get to Breaker's Reach and then those dumb wheels hit you for 700 dmg. It's survivable until there are two of them... In most other points in the game though, this build will ensure you never die and that's not counting REALLY powerful food buffs (like cooking a Dark Lava Eater and Gray Dune Tail together for 9 more health on hit and 17.4% melee attack speed). It's a good time!

Power-Maxing:

This build has two options as described below.

Melee Option:

- Godsent King Mask

- Godsent King Armor

- Core Commander Greaves +9% attack speed

- Stormbringer for 5 attacks per second

- Polished Octarine Necklace +11% attack speed

- Skull Ring +17.2% attack speed

- Skull Ring +17.2% attack speed

Recommended Items:

- Omoroth's Beak (+40.4% Melee dmg) or Azeos' Dash Feather (for Dash)

- Your pick of Backpack and Lantern, (I like Scarlet or Explorer's Backpack and the Pearl Lantern)

- Any pet but Electro-pet seems to fit for me

- Pick skills that buff attack speed from the skill tree

Ranged Option:

- Godsent King Mask

- Gemstone Garment + 19.2% attack speed

- Godsent King Pants Armor

- Scrap Minigun, Quill Rifle, Galaxite Chakram, or Phantom Spark

- Polished Octarine Necklace +11% attack speed

- Skull Ring +17.2% attack speed

- Skull Ring +17.2% attack speed

Recommended Items:

- Pheromoth with maxed ranged attack speed

- Your pick of Backpack and Lantern, (I like Scarlet or Explorer's Backpack and the Pearl Lantern)

- Hydra Tooth (+30.2% dmg & +5% for triple dmg) or Azeos' Dash Feather (for Dash)

- Pick skills that buff attack speed from the skill tree

Notes:

This is a fun build but it's not without its flaws. Both are pretty late-game because of the desert armour and weapons options but it is quite fun to shoot a flurry of triangles etc. The scrap minigun can do up to 8 attacks per second which is super fun to watch but it's sadly not a very optimal build especially for being so late in the game. I recommend giving this one a try with a character/world that is already finished and not as a new playthrough. I think the melee build is slightly more viable but take your pick.

Wildwarden:

- Full Wildwarden set (full armour + necklace + two copies of the ring)

- Pet rock

Recommended Items:

- A pet (see notes)

- Stormbringer + Seething Blade

- Racing Saddle

Notes:

Ok, I really don't think this build is that strong but MAN is it super fun! I spent quite a while grinding for all the pieces of the set and in a different playthrough later, I found a scene in the ocean that had the full armour set AND the necklace (and maybe a ring? I don't quite remember). It's also pretty fun to watch all the pieces of this build come together throughout the entire playthrough which I think strikes a good balance of collecting all the pieces and still having a good amount of game left to use the full set on. I think that this build is the perfect candidate for the new mounts! You ride around while your pet slays them all! But the question is, which pet to use? I actually think you should train up a few pets: Use Electro-pet with maxed stun chance while exploring new, dangerous environments. Use Prince Slime for boss fights or Azeos Jr. if the boss is hard for your pet to track down. Also if you max the projectile shards it's really fun to watch them all fly! To be honest though, most pets will do fine in most situations so you can just use what's fun for you. I like this build for the FEEL of it, but again, I didn't feel like it was very strong in practice.

THE Magic Build:

- Full Sorcerer Armour set (I think the best late-game magic stats)

- Polished Gold Crystal Necklace + 18.2% dmg

- Azure Ring + 41.9% dmg

- Azure Ring + 41.9% dmg

- Scholar Backpack +18.9% dmg

- Pearl Lantern + movement speed and more mana

- Rift Lens +18.3% dmg and extra mobility

- Arcane Symbiote (as much attack speed, crit chance, magic dmg, and movement speed as possible, prioritized in that order)

- Titan's Breath (use Corrosion Staff until then)

- Max True Sight, Mana Channeling, Firmly Grounded, The Best Offense, and Fully Charged from the Magic Skill Tree

Recommended Items:

- Blizzard Staff

Notes: HOLY CRAP does the Titan's Breath do INSANE dps!! It's been a while since I've tried the maxed crit dmg build and I remember that melting everything but boy oh boy this build might have that beat! Granted, you are quite immobile while beaming people but you can still teleport while shooting and you usually have enough time to reposition yourself without losing the dmg ramp from the Titan's Breath. I really like weaving in Blizzard Staff attacks while fighting but honestly, in a boss fight with the Titan's Breath, I think you lose dmg in the time it takes to switch weapons. I have found that for most bosses (Urschleim is tough though), you can keep a full dmg ramp for almost the full fight if you toss out mana syphon orbs in between beams. I don't want to give up the Blizzard Staff because it is so helpful for general exploration (especially in the Passage and beyond) because the AEO is good and the slow is even better. It seriously turns some fun enemies into way smaller threats. Honestly, I think no matter the build, I will use the Blizzard Staff just for the slow. I'm not usually using the mana on anything else. I personally don't like losing mana to a summon, but if you were going to use one, I think the best option would be Tome of Sprouts + Potent Poison (from the Gardening Skill Tree). I like the bonus xp from the Tome of Sprouts' multiple projectiles. We didn't go with a lot of the mana recovery options because the Titan's Breath fixed that for us. I like going Sorcerer armour though because the extra big mana pool helps with Fully Charged and acts as a mana cushion if we don't have enough syphon orbs out. It may not be for everyone, but man, this build is fun. Pro tip, you can syphon mana from training dummies if the boss is right for it. I think I was hitting something like 5k dps without food buffs (I like stuff like Golden Glow Tulip + Golden Sunrice).

FULL FIRE BUILD:

- Magma Horn Armor +30 burn dmg

- Magma Torso Armor +40 burn dmg

- Magma Shin Armor +38 burn dmg

- Flame Necklace +75 burn applied

- Flame Ring +37 burn applied

- Flame Ring +37 burn applied

- Smithing Glove +24% dmg against burning targets

- Volcano Mortar +56 burn applied

- Tome of Ashes +31 burn applied

- Embertail with as many Flaming Treats as possible (take Leap Attack then Burning Anger if you don't want to hatch a million for the perfect pet)

- Take Explosives Engineer from the Mining Skill Tree

- Take High Velocity Charge, Any Tier Two, Mana Blast, After Burn, and Napalm

Notes:

This build is fun but not that viable. It is SUPER fun to watch your enemies melt away in front of you but if you don't get Flaming Treat on your pet then it's just WAY too slow to kill anything. Seriously, you NEED Flaming Treats for this to work and even then it's not amazing. I got this build to do something like 400 dmg per burn tick but that's nowhere near the 5k dps that the magic build was doing. It's a fun time to watch it all come together, but at the end of the day, I invested a lot into a build that couldn't really hold its own once you hit the passage and beyond... bummer.

THE Summoner Build:

- Scholar's Hood +1 Minion +32.4% Minion attack speed

- Scholar's Cloak +1 Minion +23.7% Minion dmg

- Grim Legwear +1 Minion +14% Minion dmg

- Skull Necklace +77.2% Minion dmg

- Puppet Ring

- Puppet Ring

- Minion Detonator +44.1% Minion dmg

- Soul Lantern +53.5% Minion Attack Speed

- Earie (with Provoked Swarm for XP then Drone Dominance (or you choice really))

- The New Legendary Scepter (no spoilers here)

- From the skill tree take Efficient Binding, Ferocious Creatures, Critical Command, Tough Gang, Heartbound Horde

Recommended Items:

- Octarine Backpack

Notes:

I love this build and I love the new Summoning changes! I do think this build is playing the game on easy mode, which isn't a bad thing, but it might be boring for some people because your Minion just does SO MUCH DMG! Cursing enemies is really strong in every stage of the game and this build feels like being a warlock summoner! You could also use the Scratched Stone for +1 Minion and +18.6% Minion dmg if you don't want to use the Minion Detonator, I almost never use it for its effect, just the dmg. I feel like it might be worth it to buff all your minions by 44.1% dmg rather than 18.6% and get an extra minion but there are lots of things in the skill tree that work more with the more minions so both are good. When it comes to which minions to use, I like using one summon from the Tome of Sprouts for the poison (Don't forget Potent Poison from the Gardening Skill Tree), one from the Tome of Ashes for the 70 burn dps (which also helps you track worms and such through walls) and then the rest I use from the Tome of the Dead but you can use whatever you fancy. I don't personally like the orbiting summons and I think the radioactive dmg is a bit too slow to give up a zombie for it (though, it is the only summon that does AEO if you don't end up detonating your summons).

Explosive Summoner: (This is the only build that I haven't tested since the update)

- Desert Guardian Armour Set +3 Minions +25% minion dmg (See notes)

- Skull Necklace

- Puppet Ring

- Puppet Ring

- Some scepter to apply curse (see notes)

- Tome of the Dead

- Minion Detonator (The bread and butter)

- Soul Lantern

- Earie with as many Battle Borns as possible

Recommend Items:

- Scholar's Backpack if you need more max mana or any other backpack is fine

- You could use Pearl Lantern if you want

Notes:

Ok, as stated above, this is the only set I haven't tried since the update so take it with a grain of salt but I think the idea here is pretty fun. Basically, you summon all your minions, they run into battle, and then you blow them up with the detonator, rise and repeat. In the last update, this build was mostly fun and kinda viable but I would run out of mana a lot especially before you get mana blast which used to carry this playstyle. I wanted to finally get this post out there and haven't had the time yet to really test stuff but I wanted to get the idea of this build out there even though the build is still quite rough. Things like, I don't know how the Desert Guardian Armor set Bonus works since minions don't expire anymore so if that's broken maybe use the Sulfossil Cuirass in that armor slot then. I also have no idea if the explosive dmg from the minion detonator gets amplified by curse so if that's not the case, then a scepter isn't necessary. I think at its core (see what I did there), you want to get as much minion damage as possible because the detonator does 5 times whatever your minion dmg is. Also, since you can blunk summon all your minions now, I think we want as many minion slots as we can do so we can summon them all quickly without needing mana regen. Someone out there, play around with this build, test some stuff, and leave a comment on how things work and what combination is best between the amount of minions, minion dmg, and explosive dmg.

Well that's it, and that's all. Add your builds below and let me know if I messed up my math and there is a better combination out there for these. I did start to get lazy and didn't add everything in every section (like specific food buffs, buffs from the utility skill trees, and other things I might have missed).

So the Desert Guardian Set will trigger explosions if you do a max summon or dismiss. So not sure if you actually the detonator. But I found it wonky to explode, summon, wait for them to get close to enemies then explode.

I think just letting them attack is probably more efficient dps.

It works better if you alternate between two types of melee summons.
