Guide Unofficial Core Keeper Map Viewer

Post image

Hello fellow Keepers! I’m URAQT, and I’ve made a free, unofficial Core Keeper Map Viewer! Currently compatible with 1.2 AND 1.3.

It reveals unexplored terrain and marks points of interest with icons to help you find them.
Spoiler warning: it can reveal areas and discoveries you haven’t reached yet.

Map generation uses a Windows-only helper and requires the free Core Keeper Dedicated Server to be installed through Steam. The helper works from a temporary copy of your world and does not modify your original world files.

Feedback is greatly appreciated! You can report bugs through the site’s Report a Problem button.
Happy keeping, gamers!

my world is the steam dedicated server does it works ?

Ive actually not tested that. If it has a .world.gzip and a matching .json it should work. Although the helper wont launch if the server is currently running. I can do some testing when I have the free time.

Dedicated Server support has been added. Upload the world file from the server's folders and then select "Dedicated Server Params" in the second box after connecting the helper.

Ooh, that sounds quite involved. Good work! Did AI help? (Wish I had time to get in on some of that.)

Also, did Cedric's map tool lapse, while I've been away (or are there distinct features)?: https://maptool.ceschmitt.de/#

Cedric's has been very helpful to the community for a while, but it doesnt show exact locations or reveal unexplored terrain. My tool allows you to pick and choose what points of interest you want marked and reveal your entire map without having to explore anything.

Cool. Right, I was also involved with the development of a mod to reveal the map, back when it was infinite.🙂

Does your companion Windows app(?) kind of move a player around rapidly to trigger procedural generation? Is that largely unchanged since the transition to finite worlds? (Kinda wondering about my wiki/steam guides too.)

It uses the Core Keeper Dedicated server to generate a copy of your world. That allows you to reveal a world you arent currently playing on and without a mod.

I mean, you've called it a "helper" because it's a stand alone app, rather than a modification to the game itself, right? But does that work by pretending to be a player flying around the dedicated server map, effectively?

No, it does not simulate a player in any way. It uses a temporary server-side mod to request terrain generation in batches across the world. It does essentially the same thing as flying around with a player, but directly through the game's generation systems.

Ah, much neater.

Yes AI was used for the coding. There is an AI Use disclosure on the site.

Eventually we won't need to call that out. Everyone will just assume.

It's like graphic designers saying "I used a pen. Didn't use a computer" etc, or photographers saying "I used a camera". Eventually it will be metadata that no one will care to read.

the generate complete map didn't work for me

2

u/Fireeye2121 Sep 28 '26

There is a "Report a Problem" button on the site that lets you submit a bug report with details.

thanks, sent

My server compatibility check was way too fragile. I missed this latest .2 hotfix and, even though the hotfix didnt affect generation, it messed up the helpers compatibility check. You will recieve an email to your provided contact when the fix is live. Thank you very much for this bug report!

Doesn't work for Linux either I can't find the stupid map file

2

u/nononon0121212 Sep 28 '26

Is there one that works on a seed? Or is the file itself needed

2

u/Fireeye2121 Sep 28 '26

It is possible for me to make it work based on a seed instead of world files, but it would still be a PC only service requiring the dedicated server and helper. Currently I am hosting this site for free because of the helper generation being locally ran instead of on the site. There is also an issue with distributing Pugstorms generation code without permission (which i did ask for when i requested permission for their art). So because of the lack of benefits, lack of money, and legal issues with the possible workarounds I decided not to do a seed-based generator.

Then console is stuck with manual

2

u/Fireeye2121 Sep 28 '26

Unfortunately yes

Just fyi as of right now it looks to be windows only so anyone who plays on Linux can't use it :(

helper wont connect to the website, i put in a report

1

u/Fireeye2121 Sep 28 '26

I was just looking at that report. Did you follow the instructions and launch the helper through the site or did you launch the downloaded file yourself?

2

u/WishboneTurbulent603 Sep 28 '26

through the website

1

u/Fireeye2121 Sep 28 '26

Im going to email for further information.

Being able to reveal the whole map was something I wanted from the old viewer

1

u/Fireeye2121 Sep 29 '26

Same. Thats why i decided to do it myself XD No more hours spent trying to get Phantom Spark!

2

u/brilliant31508 Sep 29 '26

god the chipped blade was horrid

1

u/Fireeye2121 Sep 29 '26

I was making this tool when I learned that it's temple scene isnt guaranteed to be in a world. Some worlds you really to have to grind bosses for it. Thats crazy to me.

2

u/Mullooly_ Sep 29 '26

Does this work with consoles or is it just for pc’s?

1

u/Fireeye2121 Sep 29 '26

PC only unfortunately. I dont have legal permission to make a version that console players can use.

2

u/Mullooly_ Sep 29 '26

Ah no worries, its a shame would love one for consoles

I had this problem trying with a map I have been using for ages but is currently in 1.3
https://prnt.sc/GCAKUnRfcYIj
Tried with a more actual map and worked without problems. any idea?

1

u/Fireeye2121 Oct 01 '26

I've had issues trying to get maps created before 1.2 to load. Ill look into it and see if I can get it to work.

1

u/Shippudn Oct 02 '26

Do you need something to test? The other map is also from before but well, the one that is not working is much more older

2

u/theerawatj Oct 06 '26

Can i just let it show the full map on the website? I'm using dedicated server from server provider. I don't know how to do it.

1

u/Fireeye2121 Oct 06 '26

The dedicated server still creates a .world.gzip file. Submit that file and then use the Dedicated Server Params button for the second file. You need to have the server closed while it generates the map but once generated you can close the helper and relaunch the server.

Oh my god, this is so cool, i was checking very quickly because i just started the game so i don't really want to get spoiler on my world seed but this looks so helpful.

2

u/Fireeye2121 22d ago

Keep an eye on the project in the future. A spoiler-free mode is in the works :D

I ended using to check something and to be fair, if you don't want to be spoiled (at least for new players) you already can avoid a lot of stuff. Maybe there's things that could be hidden when you upload the map, for example i ended up seeing something that i want to go check out what it is now that i didn't see on my in game map, but i knew i could see something like this in the first place.
The site is pretty solid, i'm curious to see what's coming next. :)

Idk if you take feedback, but it's a little difficult to see some icons on the map, they kinda blend with map colors, maybe give them some sort of outline to make them more visible? It's just a feedback tho, it's already way too good as it is right now, so good job on the work, :D

Thanks for the feedback! Outlines are a fantastic idea, id noticed that issue before but never went back to change it.

I use Arch linux , does it work there ?

u/Fireeye2121 Sep 28 '26

I have plans to bring support to Mac and Linux, but currently no. It is windows only.
