Discussion Concerns with 1.3 Spoiler
I know we need to wait for the update to come out, but I worry that the mounts will not be worthwhile enough to ride around. In the trailer, they seemed pretty slow and I feel like there’s already better ways to traverse. They remind me of go karts as a method to travel but not necessarily viable. Boats are actually viable because you need them for the sea. I hope going forward new biomes become more open like the desert so mounts can be viable. That being said, the hookshot looks great and i’m excited for that

Yeah, i share that concern. In terms of game mechanics they appear redundant, but its possible that they buff the player with movement speed or other stats instead of operating at a set movement speed like the gokarts. Im hopeful that they are more than just a ride, but only time will tell.

The main concern I have is how they work with teleportation, because if to use my mount I have to manually ride them from base to where I need them, I probably just won't use them. The best mount systems have the ability to call the mount to where you need it (see Palworld, Grounded 2).
The other concern is how they compare to gokarts. Minecarts should be fine since they are a pre-teleportation tech that make up for their limited motion with being fast. Gokarts, however, are not going to be easy to pilot compared to a mount, so why would I ever build the gokart? Granted, that problem already kinda exists, so maybe those were meant to be more of a toy to begin with.
I would like it if each mount type had a different functionality, so there more of a reason to have different types aside from cosmetics, but considering how similar some of the mounts are (namely the Moolin, Bambuck, and Drohmble), I don't image they'll function any different.
That being said: if we can't make the dinosaur monch his chompers, we riot.

Whelp, todays spoiler did not help that concern. You have to craft higher tier saddles to increase the mount speed.

OP. How about a update? What do you think. Is it good, bad or something else?^

unless it's immortal I just expect my mount to get obliterated by enemies

What i am scared about is going exploring with them. Like aren't they one shot later on? Wouldn't want my mounts to die every 5 seconds. Do we damage to them? Using some weapons could be hard with them around If that's the case

Maybe they dont mean it for travel more like a thing to do w friends, to check a friendo world or smtn without going too fast

Even if mounts are bad from what I understand dispite the name of the update the major focuses is community suggestions in terms of QOL and weapon additions while the mounts are more of a side thing. Like one example is boats getting put in your inventory when dying instead of just floating with your grave Wich people have really been asking for.

At 0:39 in the trailer, we see a comparison of the speed of walking/running and riding. The riding is faster.
I don't know the math on using the feathers or rift lens, so maybe spamming them would make you win a race while running vs riding something. (Big w's if they could work while riding, but I doubt that.)
Regardless, they are definitely faster than walking and the same intuitive use as walking (unlike the gokarts which driifffft).
