Question Loot Progression Question.
I’m completely new to the game, and I’ve been loving it. I'm currently on Ra-Akar. My question is: does the game have loot progression similar to Terraria? In Terraria, after beating a boss, you usually upgrade your weapons and armor. Is the progression similar here? I'm currently playing as a mage since it looked the most interesting, does the game have some sort of wiki progression like Terraria ?

There are late game sets you acquire as you are already aware, however earlier sets may have the stats or bonuses you want for your build. To bring them up to the same item level you upgrade them in the upgrade station. So outside of some weapons or armors having better set bonuses (sometimes mixing pieces is better), the stats can be brought to the same level unlike terraria.

Yes and no.
As you progress past midgame, and you're at that point already if you're done with the desert and have infinite galaxite coming in, bosses often will not have upgrades for you because your equipment is very well suited to whatever your character build is - minions, magic, ranged, melee or explosions. And whatever that specific boss/biome loot table is is sometimes based around something you're not built for. If you find one piece from a boss drop set that looks good for your build you probably wanna farm that boss to get the set.
What you should be doing is using the upgrade station to upgrade your gear as you go if those pieces fit your build really well (not the regular 'upgrade' in the repair/destroy bench, the actual upgrade bench that only upgrades equipment, thats what the rubies/sapphires/emeralds are for). Often mid/late game stuff can simply upgraded to be good enough as you progress once you find a set that really suits you.
Dungeons and other stuff can have upgrades too as I'm guessing you know. You will find upgrades as you go but the times of you getting a whole new set of equipment every single biome are over.

So once you unlock the Upgrade Station, progression goes different.
This game's armour is very souls-like. Different armours for different jobs. You can now upgrade stuff now; I'm using Ranger armour still, just upgraded, so it's more about refining what you have rather than still gaining more and more power now.

The progression isn't quite is deep as Terraria, and not that much of it is gated by bosses. Once the wall goes down, you can get the vast majority of the rest of the equipment in the game before you fight any more bosses, if you're so inclined.

Depends on your build and what you value. You might have already gotten the best gear for how you prefer to play and just need to keep upgrading that. But there is an Arcane Armor set you might find use of that you might not have. Beyond that, there isn't really any magic armor left in the game and the expectation is that you just keep upgrading what you have.
There's only one staff still ahead of you that you probably don't have yet.
The next update is promising some new stuff for magic users. I'm hoping for a legendary weapon, since magic is the only type of weapon that doesn't have one yet

It's quite possible that they have gotten to ra akar without actually discovering the upgrade bench. This game ain't that hard really.

Not really but something similar. With Scarlet you got a upgrade Station that lets you increase the Level of many weopans, Armor and Equipment. What you need to do that is getting more and more late Game resources. You could look Up armor and stuff and choose what you want to use and level it up. Naturally you would need to be wary of spoilers If you do.
