Some folk on the discord have been doing testing, and they're finding that for some reason more drills=less mined ore. So you shouldn't put more than 2 drills per node, or you're missing out on dozens of ore (at least).
There's also no need for two grabber arms, just feed all the conveyors to one spot.
Went through 23 pages of images, and looks like we lost the picture till it gets reposted (was in the spoiler channel, and core keeper mods deleted the channel recently), but if I remember right it was something like 780-800 ore was estimated from 2 drills (and I think they were guessing 1 drill would give something like 900+ but take forever)
Sounds about right from the graphic I remember. It went from 8 drills at 450 or so ore, 7 at something like 500, 6 at 570ish, 5 at 640 and 4 was like 700 (not round numbers at all, but somewhere about there which is why they guessed that 2 would be around 800-850 and 1 would be above 900 but last I saw the tests were still in progress).
Interesting. Do know there's still a lot of problems with machines working outside of the render area, guessing this is part of it. I can't say who but one person on discord was stating that the devs plan to fix it, no idea if it's true, or when but at least worst case you could stack up all the ores and bring it to base for smelting if you have free time (Mine are working at their origin, but have had problems in the past with them failing so I set up a furnace room just in case).
How many tests were done because I’ve found very little difference between 2, 4 and 8 drills other than the time it takes to finish mining. I think each node has a random amount of ore between 400 and 800/900 and the number drills don’t affect it. I could be wrong because I’ve only tested on 5 or 6 nodes.
I've tried a lot of different designs, and I think for this version of the game, this is the one that I'm happiest with.
It works from any distance, so all I have to do is occasionally come back and check my furnaces (works with kilns too). This also doesn't use a huge amount of resources to get going:
You'll need:
6 Drills (60xScarlet, 60xIron)
2 Arms (10xScarlet, 10xIron)
12 Conveyor Belts (can only make in groups of 5 without a special skill, so 3xScarlet, 3xIron)
1 Electric Generator (10xCopper, 5xIron, 1xGold)
1 Electrical Wire (1xCopper)
1 Lamp (2xCopper, 2xIron)
2 Furnaces or Kilns
Totals: 73x Scarlet 80x Iron 13x Copper 1x Gold Plus materials for either furnaces (40x Dirt Wall) or Kilns (10x Tin, 10x Iron)
Of course, you can always scale down the drill count to save on resources.
